 In a way, the Squier brand is sort of known as a beginner's guitar. And I think that reputation is not really deserved because although they do make some very inexpensive guitars that cost, you know, $100, $150, the Bullet Series, that kind of stuff, when you get into the more mid range or higher range instruments, they really are good, solid guitars that anybody could use. Okay, now I want to hear from you guys, all of the Squier owners out there, especially somebody who has the Contemporary Series or like that Active HH series that I was showing you a second ago. I would love to hear what you guys think about those guitars

 I want something that's gonna be kind of similar in terms of the price range. But anyway, let's go ahead and plug it in and check it out. But one cool thing is it does have these solid saddles down here, so it's not like the bent steel ones that rub the skin off your hand while you're using it. It even has a nice traditional 12 inch radius on the fretboard, so it's very comfortable to play for both chords and also lead work

 But the Contemporary Series, it's just a more solid guitar, you know, definitely more professional in a lot of ways. And so this is really a guitar that you could have as a first guitar, but continue playing it, you know, really throughout your whole journey as a guitar player. Now, if you think I'm just saying that because it sounds nice, I want to show you guys something here. Another guitar that I have is this one here

 So to sum it all up, yes, I think this is a good first guitar for somebody. Now, in particular, I think the Squier Contemporary Series is extra good for being a first guitar because, you know, there are some lower end Squiers and while they are still good guitars, I think those guitars are more along the lines of something that you're going to play for maybe a year and then you're going to want to step up to something later on. Is a SQUIER STRAT the Best FIRST GUITAR? - Demo / Review

 Guys, for a lot of people, a Squier Stratocaster is their first guitar,

 but is it really a good choice for that? Today, let's take a look.

 Alright guys, so of course the Squier Bifender guitars, and the Stratocasters in particular,

 are very very popular when it comes to a guitar that someone's going to go out and maybe get as

 a gift for someone to be their first guitar, or someone who is buying a guitar for themselves,

 they've been thinking about playing for a long time, and they want something to start out on.

 Modern-day Squier guitars usually run in the price range of between $100 to maybe $400,

 depending on the model you get. Now 15 or 20 years ago, there were actually some other Squier

 guitars that were more expensive, but those are generally not really made today. Now the specific

 guitar I want to check out in this video is the Squier Contemporary HSS Stratocaster that I have

 right here. Now this is actually one of the more expensive guitars in the Squier line right now,

 because it's from the Contemporary Series. This guitar goes for about $350, and if we're asking

 that question of is a guitar good to be a first guitar, I think the price is actually a pretty

 important factor. Usually I'd say between $300 and $400, maybe $500 tops is about as much as you

 would want to spend on a first guitar. The reason of course being that honestly a lot of people

 just don't stick with it. A lot of people will get a guitar, they're excited for maybe a month

 or six weeks or something, and then they start to lose interest in it. They don't put in the time

 to practice, they don't improve, and so they just don't really go anywhere with it, and the guitar

 ends up sitting in the closet and gets sold at a garage sale later on. It's depressing, I know,

 but my whole point is this guitar is really at a good price point, but aside from the price there

 are also several other advantages of getting a guitar like this as a first guitar. First of all,

 this guitar just has a great classic look to it. So if somebody has some favorite guitar hero and

 they want to play like them, I mean chances are at least one of their heroes played a Strat at

 some point. Another point here is that with the HSS or humbucker single pickup arrangement,

 this is a very diverse guitar in terms of the different tones that you can get out of it,

 so it really doesn't matter so much what style of music you're interested in playing. I mean

 with the humbucker you can get some heavy tones from the bridge pickup and the other combinations

 and the other single coil pickups will give you much more, you know, gentler, sweeter tones if

 you want to play some jazz or blues or a folk or something like that. So already we're checking off

 a lot of boxes here. The guitar is at a good price, you can use it to play a lot of different

 styles, it looks cool, and honestly for a $350 guitar these guitars play and sound really good.

 Now I know you want to hear that for yourself, so I'm gonna get to some playing samples in just a

 second, but real quick guys, I do want to mention this, I'm really trying to grow my channel right

 Alright guys, but enough of that YouTube business, let's go ahead and plug in this guitar and listen

 to how it sounds. And for this demo I'm gonna use my Blackstar ID Core amplifier. Now this is

 an inexpensive amplifier, I'm not using a real expensive amplifier with a modestly priced

 guitar. I want something that's gonna be kind of similar in terms of the price range. But anyway,

 let's go ahead and plug it in and check it out.

 okay guys, now let's talk about the specs of this guitar. It's a poplar body. Of course we have a

 rosewood fretboard with 22 frets, kind of like a like a medium jumbo fret. Of course it's a bolt-on

 maple neck here. It's a 25 and a half inch scale length, the distance from the nut down to the

 bridge here, which is what you would expect on a Fender guitar. And it's got Squier brand pickups

 and tuners, and the bridge here is just a standard vintage style trim. But one cool thing is it does

 have these solid saddles down here, so it's not like the bent steel ones that rub the skin off

 your hand while you're using it. It even has a nice traditional 12 inch radius on the fretboard,

 so it's very comfortable to play for both chords and also lead work. And of course, you know,

 I always like black guitars. This is sort of a like a nice metallic black here, but they have

 in several other colors as well. And of course I'm going to put links down in the video description.

 You can check out where you can get this guitar and the other color options they have and all

 that stuff. So to sum it all up, yes, I think this is a good first guitar for somebody. Now,

 in particular, I think the Squier Contemporary Series is extra good for being a first guitar

 because, you know, there are some lower end Squiers and while they are still good guitars,

 I think those guitars are more along the lines of something that you're going to play for maybe
