 Carefully unpack the turntable and make certain you have all of the parts and accessories. You should have the turntable chassis with attached dual RCA output cables, dust cover with attached hinges, die-cast aluminum platter with drive belt, felt platter mat, head shell with pre-installed 1891R stereo cartridge, counterweight assembly, 45 RPM record adapter. Begin by installing the platter and drive belt. Carefully place the platter on the spindle and make certain it is fully seated

 Be very careful not to damage the exposed stylus by dragging the cartridge across the platter mat. While gently holding the head shell, rotate the counterweight until the tone arm is horizontally balanced. It should hover freely just above the platter and not touch the platter surface. Once the tone arm is balanced, without touching the counterweight, carefully move the tone arm over to its rest and temporarily secure it to the rest using the nylon tie

 Tighten carefully. Next, install the counterweight, making certain that the black stylus force gauge dial is oriented toward the front. As you rotate the counterweight, it will thread onto the tone arm. Now we will balance the tone arm

 While gently holding the head shell to stabilize the tone arm, carefully loosen the nylon tie and remove the foam packing sheet securing the tone arm to its rest.  Another reviewer mentioned problems with the automatic arm starting in the wrong place, and I had that problem, too. It looked to me like the headshell or cartridge was tilted sideways a bit, so I gently tried to straighten it, and that seemed to help the alignment issue. Also, the stylus guard was missing, so I emailed Audio-Technica support, and they promptly and kindly offered to send me one. I purchased this turntable through Amazon Warehouse deals, so the following probably won't apply to others

I bought LP's as a youngster right before CD's came along, and I recently reacquired some of the ones I gave up to a family member decades ago. Since I already have a receiver, this turntable was a good solution for me. I get what others have said about the outside having a cheap plastic feel. It does feel kind of thin and hollow, but since the unit is basically sitting on a shelf all the time it really doesn't affect performance

Connected to my Yamaha receiver and speakers, I've really enjoyed listening

  Tone arm balancing was a bit fiddly but plenty of YouTube guides in how to do it. It sounds great. I can play my record collection again! Love the auto play function. Thanks Richersounds

I needed a basic but good record deck to replace a non functional small and very basic bush turntable. This Audiotechnica deck looked great and a good price lower than I was expecting but with proper tone arm and decent cartridge. It arrived quickly and was fairly easy to set up. Well packaged

New user, posting my setup. I'm not a dealer, just a long time vinyl collector. Let me know if anyone has questions or comments on my setup. I've got a weekly YouTube channel but I thought I'd start out by sharing my setup first :)

In the end, I decided on the Fluance RT85 because of a couple of items. I was looking to start a bit cheaper, but the Blue 2M cartridge that came on the Fluance was the deciding factor and I am so glad I went this route. The other reasons were the acrylic platter and the physical switch for the 33/45 instead of having to switch the belt like in many similar priced turntables.

So, I am here to confess that after a lot of back and forth, I am pretty confident that I'm going with a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO. I'd like to credit u/sharkamino for all of his help. I did some more research and digging. 

I need to get to my local HiFi store. They're basically down to the P1 and the Evo. 

Now, I'm moving on to pre-amps/integrated receivers. 

Down the rabbit hole I go!

Turntable decision

The best bargain at this price is the Fluance RT85. It comes with an Ortofon 2M Blue, which has a superior stylus compared to what’s on any of these others (nude tip rather than bonded).

I seem to alway find myself in this position when I go and try and buy something I save up for, I save for one thing but once I have the money I find 10 other different options I want. I have about $500 and I’m trying to buy a new turntable. I was saving for the pro- ject debut carbon evo, and I was dead set. 

But then I was playing with an AT-LPW50PB and I thought it was pretty good and I could save some money buying this for a preamp. I’ve heard the motors on these could be a little noisy but I didn’t hear anything with the one I was using.

The agony of trying to buy something new

 There's a lot of slack in the lever, it bounces the arm if you lift it too quickly and the tonearm safety latch feels like its going to break off every time I use it.  My last turntable was a Pro-ject Essential III and even though the body of this Fluance is much more substantial, the entire experience of lowering the needle with the tonearm lever on the Pro-ject was more solid and satisfying, whereas the RT85 feels flimsy and crappy.  The Ortofon 2m Blue looks cool, but to be honest, for a $250 cartridge it doesn't really sound much better to me than the OM10 on my Pro-ject, which didn't sound much better to me than the ADC QLM32 Mrk III on my Hitachi HT-324 from the 80s. I told you I'm not an audiophile

I am not an audiophile, just a guy who likes to listen to records. I bought the white Fluance RT85 because of the positive reviews and because it looked cool with its acrylic platter, etc. I have owned many different turntables and record players over the years, but this one is the most expensive.  Overall it's an okay turntable, but that's probably as far as I would go with it

 Colored vinyl really pops on the white, though the visual aesthetic proves more impressive than actually using it.  The entire tonearm mechanism feels super cheap. The tonearm lever, stand and safety latch actually feels like something you'd find on a cheapo plastic portable record player like a Crosley. Maybe I got a bad one, but that's my honest opinion

 The three rubber isolation feet are easy to adjust and have kept the plinth true. The solid acrylic platter adds a sense of heft and sturdiness. I always use a platter weight as well and the FLUANCE offering does a fine job. The smoked acrylic dust cover is what you'd expect

I appreciate some of the details in the design such as being able to lock the "S" shaped tone arm in its cradle even if the stylus lever is in the raised position.  The new Bamboo veneer, (Available as of May 22, 2021) is matte, clean and elegant which provides a nice contrast amid the brown, black and silver quagmire of modern Hi-Fi. The Ortofon 2M Blue Cartridge is all it's cracked up to be. The hype is real, as is the delivery of beautiful sound reproduction. I appreciate some of the details in the design such as being able to lock the "S" shaped tone arm in its cradle even if the stylus lever is in the raised position

First things first, the sound quality is a substantial upgrade from the RT82 by FLUANCE that I had purchased only a year prior. In fact it's the best sounding turntable for beginners I've ever heard. Not that I've traveled the world in search of turntable nirvana mind you. However I've seen my fair share amongst others in this price category and I'm highly impressed by the RT85's Value For Money
