Audio Technica ATH-M50x vs Samson Technologies SR850

There’s a little of the upper mids sucked out which most people won’t want anyway. Also, they are super easy to drive, so no need for an amp. Noise isolation is mediocre. Overall, a perfect headphone for your average person who “wants a nice pair of headphones” but doesn’t want a big commitment

I wanted to expand my headphone collection, particularly those of open-back design, so I purchased the Samson SR850 based on the number of positive reviews. As others have noted, the construction is not the most robust, but it's fine for mostly at-home use. When I compare the Samson to my other open-back headphones, the Philips SHP9500 and SHP9600, the sound quality falls somewhere between the two Philips units. The 9500, while clear and detailed, can be overly treble-heavy and sharp; the 9600 eases back on the shrillness and has somewhat more bass emphasis

(score: 90/100 points) Pros –It does a variety of tasks really good with no real weakness at anything. It’s best for listening enjoyment…not professional studio monitoring as advertised. It has very warm sounding vocals, a balanced sound (with very slight favor to lower mid range & upper bass), and comfortable (loose) fit on my ears/head. It handles thick, polyphonic music passages with ease without distortion…while keeping the main melody/vocals volume and tone quality still cutting through with warmth

The weight and self-adjusting head strap make them easy to put on and allows them to stay comfortable for as long as you need to wear them. The shape of the ear cups does require me to adjust the headphones after an hour or two if I don’t hit that sweet spot due to them not fitting my ears exactly, with them also being open back there is a good amount of sound leakage and not any noise cancellation other than having some form of audio playing. The build quality might feel a little on the cheap side at first, but they are still holding up a year later and the materials used allow it to be as light as it is. I will continue using these headphones for the foreseeable future and would recommend these headphones for anyone looking for good, reliable, everyday use headphone that won’t break the bank

If you are a travelling person that is exposed to lots of noisy situations the qc15 or the and-9's are the better fit for you. I myself transit much of the time. However, the loudness at which I play my music blocks out much of the noise (with the m50s which is around 50%). It all depends on how much noise that surrounds an individual

Now I don't know why amazon is asking me to rate the noise cancellation and the bass, as these are open backs so for people who know, they know. If you don't know, about 5 minutes of research will get you caught up.

They are a bit muted in the sound signature which can make them less fatiguing than other, more analytical, headphones. Mids - A bit to high level for me, it tended to make punk rock music sound very close and muddied Lows - A bit boomy but very spacious Audio Technica ATH M-50x Highs - Quite good representation, a bit cold though Mids - Nothing special, no major issues though Lows - Too over-emphasized -----------------Comfort--------------- Beyerdynamic DT 770 - Winner Perfect. I wore these on multiple occasions for more than 7 hours and never noticed any pressure points or discomfort. The headband is larger than average to distribute the pressure

I hope they continue to improve as they break-in though [* they didn't] As for fit and comfort, they need better ear pads. Velour pads are a great idea but these pads are not soft. The velour on these pads remind me of the material that are on a lint brush. They look like they could be easily removed and upgraded
