 Could be wrong here, but the cartridge (the thing at the end of the tonearm where the needle goes on) looks like the venerable Audio Technica AT95E-commonly included on turntables that cost upwards of $500. Great sounding cartridge, and it’s the cartridge and stylus that actually determine how good a turntable sounds.

Been wanting to get into vinyl for awhile, found this at goodwill for $15. Did I do good? Would also love some advice on what to do next as I am a complete noob.

 Sadly, it sounds awful compared to the AT85EP. It's very quiet, sounds tinny, and just doesn't offer the dynamic range that the AT85EP does. I had friends listen to it to ensure that I wasn't crazy, and the results were unanimous.  Do yourself a favor and try the AT85EP, and don't forget the AT-PMA1 1/2" mount adapter (not needed if you already have a P-Mount head shell)

Great sound is not entirely subjective

Apparently, this is an updated version of Audio Technica's consumer workhorse cartridge. The updated version of the AT-95 now requires slightly greater tracking force (2 grams of nominal tracking force as opposed to 1.75 grams).  Compared to the older version that came with a Thorens TD-235 that I purchased 4 years ago, the current version sounds more dynamic

 In fact, the current AT-95 sounds great; nothing seems to be added nor taken away. The earlier AT-95 sounds somewhat laid back and slightly muffled in comparison. The price is also slightly lower than the original $50 so this is really good news. Its tracking of inner grooves is also good

A Cartridge That Outperforms Its Predecessor

 I have this issue with both new & old records of varying weights. It must be related to the weight, or lack thereof, of the tonearm on the Stir it Up.  That said, the original cartridge on the Stir it Up tt does/did a fine job. I mainly purchased this because I wanted to "upgrade

Excellent value for the money

 At95e is bright compared to AM30s, and my ears tell me that the AM30s has a wider frequency response. Play the same record with both with my eyes blind, I'll tell you which cart is which. Which one I like? I like them both, but I'd rather listen to classics with the Signet. Rock tends to like the AT

 This is when I start comparing it to AM30s, which is an above average cart. My Signet had a replacement needle from lpgear (a good one, I'd say) as reference. At95e is bright compared to AM30s, and my ears tell me that the AM30s has a wider frequency response. Play the same record with both with my eyes blind, I'll tell you which cart is which

I'll compare it to my Signet AM30s, so you have a relative idea. But first, just at face value, the sound quality exceeds what I had expected at this price range. I'm not the only one with this opinion, but simply repeating my experience and confirming others who had similar experiences. OTOH, don't expect a "wow" factor, I definitely did not say "oh, wow, that is awesome!"

Is this Turntable Cartridge a Worthy Successor to the Budget Throne? (#AT95E #VM95E)

 What would become the 1895e first appeared on turntables in the late 1980s?

 And it's been the bar against which other budget cartridges have been compared ever since.

 Audio-Technica calls it the finest entry-level phono cartridge ever produced.

 But after 30 years, they have revealed its successor, the VM95e.

 There are some striking physical differences here.

 The front end has been nicely modernized, and there are now threaded holes, which are

 The two stalei are somewhat interchangeable, except for plastic getting in the way of a

The Stanton N500 is a replacement needle that fits the following Stanton cartridges: 520.V3505.V3

The item delivered was actually the Stanton N500s. While this is a universal stylus that still fit my turntable's cartridge, the sound quality was atrocious. I ended up going back to the old stylus I had intended to replace.

 This is the Stanton 500, I think, version one, so this is the version three. And obviously, this one is a lot better than this one, but there are still some differences between these two. So today, that's what we're going to be doing, we're going to be checking them out. I'm going to do like a sound test with just my ears, even though I've been listening to them for quite a long time

 There we can see, I don't know what's wrong with that actually, I mean I'm trying to see stuff I think maybe it didn't go deep enough into the groove because the thing's a bit maybe it's missing a tiny bit of the diamond on it, I mean it's slightly out of place it might not have been touching the groove the whole way. I might try and get a replacement needle just to see if it is the needle that's been worn out or the cartridge but I can't really be bothered because I'm not ever going to use it again. Yeah I really don't know what's wrong with that. I mean the Stanton 500 cartridges, really good overall sounds, I really like them and really now it's just a question of for sampling I think they're great, are they good for like tracking and stuff, I mean you can do stuff to the track and so maybe add a little extra weight and also instead of doing the 23 degree thing which is more preferable for sampling to get it touching the grooves you can just straighten it out like that and that gives you really really good tracking so I think I might get you know double cartridges again and use one of them for sampling so that's probably pre-mounted 23 degrees like that and then I'm going to switch the other ones to straight so that it doesn't skip but yeah

 Now here is the big problem I had when I was running the red, just listen to it and you'll see what I mean, yeah so you can hear there that this whistle is very very scratchy, peaking at around minus 12, 11.9 so yeah it is considerably quieter than the first one but you know maybe only a decibel compared to the third one but that doesn't really matter too much as I said but then if we look at the graph again there was literally nothing going on around 16 and I mean just the main stuff going on at 62 so 62 to 16 is where you really start to hear the bass and treble dropping off so that is kind of a problem and just generally overall it's a terrible sound, 9, 10k, here you're getting some at 50 but even so I'd never, when I was rocking it I was never using that cartridge for sampling because just big note, big note. There we can see, I don't know what's wrong with that actually, I mean I'm trying to see stuff I think maybe it didn't go deep enough into the groove because the thing's a bit maybe it's missing a tiny bit of the diamond on it, I mean it's slightly out of place it might not have been touching the groove the whole way.  And then also, we're going to jump on Logic and go through like the sound analyzer plug-in and see if we can actually see any major differences. Let's check it out, I think these two are obviously the best, this one's terrible but I really want to look between these two to see if there's much more difference and then just really see how bad this red car is so let's go with the V1 and just see what's up. We can see that here is pretty much the image, it goes up to pretty much I think that must be like 18k or something but the main thing for me was this whistle thing and it doesn't sound scratchy, it doesn't sound tinny, I think it's a really good sound and you've just got loads of bass response so even some stuff coming through 16k but I think that might have been like some vibrations maybe I was walking around a bit but the main one is around 30k and you can't really hear anything lower than 30k and most speakers can't produce anything lower than 30k so 30k to about 18k, 17k is where you just want it to go there so that's all good. Obviously for the peak, if we check the peak again, peaking at 1

 Another DJ video, unfortunately, for you guys who kind of want MPC and logic stuff.

 But today it's not actually doing DJ and mixing, it's to do with needles and cartridges and

 So as you know, I've obviously got two turntables, two are the same, well, not actually the same.

 This is the 6-2 Mark II, and this is just the Mark I.

 Not too much difference, but I think there might be slightly difference with the talk,

 but I don't really notice stuff that much.

 So it's all good, but when I bought this one, this obviously came pre-mounted with,

 this is the Stanton 500 V3 cartridge with the kind of more updated, stronger head shell

 Then when I bought this turntable like two months later or something, the guy, I bought

 it off eBay and the guy shipped me with this needle, which is not a Stanton needle or cartridge.
