Honestly rather than investing in getting that cartridge to work I would recommend getting a better one. The Ortofon OM5E (or if you're really strapped the Omega 1e) or even the Audio Technica AT3600L would be better than the groove tool.

I had an Ortofon 2mm bronze, but the tip of the stylus broke off and due to budget I got a numark groove tool at the local guitar center, and the damn thing isn’t heavy enough to provide any downforce. I taped a penny to it and it works, is better fix for this issue? Thanks in advance! (project DC)

 The ATN3600L gave me a boost in the low end with richer bass coming out of my Polk loudspeakers. The expanded range allowed me to even make some adjustments to my EQ settings to compensate for the improved frequency response. This is a major improvement over the Sony factory stylus.

 The package arrived in two days and I installed the new stylus inside of one minute. My records never sounded better. The ATN3600L gave me a boost in the low end with richer bass coming out of my Polk loudspeakers. I'd caution against the base model Audio Technica, even though it's probably fine, it does have a heavy tracking force and very limited in possible upgrades. I have two vintage setups, but I'll admit I'm saving up for a new model.

I was recently gifted a huge collection of records from my dad and there are some absolute classic in there! 
Now the hard part is choosing the right record player. 
My question is, what are the main differences between the two and if i buy new will i be missing out on something that i can only experience from vintage?? 
The new turntable i was looking at was something like the Audio Technica LP60X
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 So let's try to lower the resistance even further and see what happens. And here we have with 100 kOhm in parallel with the existing 47 kOhm, so now we've achieved almost flat frequency response. However, it does roll off a little bit early, but that is part of the compromise. And just to take it a step further, here's a 50 kOhm in parallel with the existing 47 kOhm, so giving us 24 kOhm

 So this is already quite an improvement. Now our bump here is probably down to one and a half, 2 dB. So let's try to lower the resistance even further and see what happens. And here we have with 100 kOhm in parallel with the existing 47 kOhm, so now we've achieved almost flat frequency response

 The price tag of the 150 comes in at around $300 so it's certainly a more expensive cart and at $300 I certainly wouldn't classify this as you know a standard cart by any means. This is a much more sophisticated stand-up from its predecessor. Obviously people have found that we really like the nag carts and so that's one of the reasons that we go with these. These are going to be a lot more pricey than some of like your standard cartridges but at this time let me go ahead and we'll do a quick audio comparison

 It's much deeper, the dynamics are far more extended, stronger mid-range which provides more coherent like vibrant sounds for sure, greater separation compared to the predecessor of the 110. You know at some point I will do a comparison between the 110 and the 150 because I mean I can tell you guys for sure that the 110 is definitely still a really great cartridge but yeah the 150 really seems so far anyway to really be living up to its to its name in the example you know. You know is it worth $300? You know I think that I think that if you are more serious about you know vinyl records and listening to your music and getting the best experience that you possibly can I think that there is something to be said for the 150 in comparison to other you know cartridges. I think that especially if you you know have the means of being able to get one of these I think that it can be a significantly better upgrade

 Yeah it's a really great cartridge and I hope that you guys have enjoyed this this quick review and at some point here really soon I'm gonna have some stylus drops done of this new cartridge that's providing hopefully better audio quality and sound to the channel. A Quick Review: Nagaoka MP-150 Phono Cartridge

 \- budget for a good cartridge with a good styles in the $150 to $300 range: AT-VM95ML or better, like the AT-VM540ML or Ortofon 2M Blue or Bronze, Nagaoka MP-150, Goldring 1042  or better. Even if you buy a second hand turntable, usually you will have to buy at least a new stylus and you might as well choose a cartridge to your liking.

I’m looking to upgrade my turntable to one in the price range of $1k-$2k. What are my best options and should I be getting one that requires a pre-amplifier that’s not built in? If so which one?

Perfect match for my Technics SL 1200 Mk2 turntable. Easy to setup too. Sounds so good I can’t stop playing my records.
