For those working out of the home studio spend at least $300 in soundproofing getting good acoustic foam bass traps for the corners to really soundproof your recording space. But that isn't enough! The other must have is a microphone that has low self noise. I happen to know for a fact this microphone has a high self noise rate. I was skeptical about this mic for high-end audio work. Lately, looking for good condenser mics is difficult, because so many people review these "budget" mics for various podcast or YouTube/Twitch uses, and while they are happy with results, would those same budget mics work well in a small production studio? Unlike the social media uses, I'm looking for something that when in a properly conditioned room, does it capture a neutral response, have head room and provide little coloration? I can say with this mic, all YES. For the price, this provides a very neutral color with little debit where it counts for most midrange instruments and vocalists. In fact, compared to some other mics in the studio, I actually prefer this for baritone-to-alto singers because of the clarity

Saved me another 15%. When all is said and done, a mic of this quality and a shock mount for less than $150, new, tax included? Can't be beat.

You simply cannot beat the value of this mic. Not a high end mic, but very usable for just about any home studio. I am very pleased with the mic and will check out MXL for more deals. Guitar center has great service too
