  In finishing up this review: you get a brand new upgradable table for under $100, that's unheard of.  P.S. Do not forget, you'll wanna get some cleaning solution (on amazon or search around) so that your new (or old) vinyl will be sounding right

This is what it is, a decent turntable at a great price. I bought it for more than the seventy clams it's currently going for, and don't regret it. I should note that I am only playing new vinyl, stuff I picked up since my last birthday. Some of this needed cleaning out the box to remove static/pops

 It's really easy to use, so sometimes I just dig the fact I can hit the start button and go. And the sound, it's not bad at all. I mean the more expensive table setup does sound better, but it's in the nuances. For the most part this table just hits a sweet spot

 The belt was obviously better quality, it was much more rugged than the rubberband that came with the table. The stylus was tougher to tell, it looked more or less exactly the same as the stock one. Overall everything sounds good, though of course many would argue you can't get good sound out of such a *cheap* table.  EDIT 5/17/2011  I'm still using this despite having a much *better* table that sports a Shure mx97e cartridge

 All you have to do is hit the start button It's going to spin the platter lift the tone arm Rotate it over to the beginning of the record and gently lower it into that groove Oh Okay, and when the record is finished it will also automatically return The tone arm to the rest and stop that platter. It stops automatically You can hit the stop button and you can start it with one push of one button, which is very cool What an amazing amazing full-featured fully automatic turntable. All right. Now, let's try a seven-inch disc Okay

 This is a dirty old scratchy copy of take five by the dave brubeck quartet Now don't forget to flip this down to seven inch Why it needs to know how far in to drop that needle when you hit start and besides that it's the same functionality as we saw before Just hit the start button It's now spinning 45 rpms and it's rotating the stylus to that seven inch disc mark All Right guys that was and is the audio technica lp 60 Even approved by vinyl snobs and also approved by recordology. I think it sounds great I think the features are amazing for the price and I think that it has a good sound build quality Feature set and you know, I just like it all the way around everything about it is good in my opinion I think this would be a great turntable If you're wanting to move from an all-in-one or a suitcase player sort of to the next level This is a good second turntable If you've started with one of those And if it's your first record player, this would be a good record player as well To have full automatic control at this price is just is amazing and audio technica That is a good product and I think you're going to have a lot of happiness and a lot of enjoyment with this turntable All right, guys. I purchased this turntable a month ago and have used it nearly non-stop since. It's certainly not the best turntable in the world, but for all the features this fully-automatic turntable offers, there really isn't very much competition, especially when one considers what you would need to spend for a true upgrade. As it comes also comes with a phono preamp that sounds better than many cheap external preamps, using this turntable is as simple as plugging it into a set of powered speakers, dropping a record on, and pressing Start.  Build quality is acceptable for the price: the chassis is lightweight plastic, the feet do not offer a lot of vibration damping, but the platter is made out of aluminum

You will notice that there is no counterweight on the tonearm, nor is there an adjustable anti-skate feature- all of these are moot because the table has been designed for use with only one headshell/cartridge/stylus combo and tracking force and anti-skate have been set appropriately

  Playback is consistent and enjoyable for most music, but wow and flutter are definitely noticeable for passages that need consistent playback to sound correct. Excellent, with a small caveat.

 The record spun, the needle picked itself up, moved over into the correct position, and I was listening to a record that hasn't been played in over 30 years. Wow!  To get an idea of how well the record player itself performed, I went out and bought myself the Back In Black album from AC/DC the next day to see how some of the new, thicker vinyl would sound on it. I was seriously blown away. I've got a HUGE collection of MP3s, but honestly, this sounds better

 Whether or not the weight of the device has anything at all to do with the sound quality, I don't know... but I'm inclined to believe its impact is minimal

  So the hunt began for a cheap alternative that doesn't require much work to sound decent. I pulled the trigger on this little gem based primarily on price. After reading some reviews that it was "too light" and what have you, I was a little worried that I might have bought more of a toy instead of audio equipment. I was wrong

  According to other comments, there are better cartridges to be had for this, as well as an improved belt of some sort. I don't know anything about either, but it's on the table anyways.  So, long story short, if you're looking for a very sharp looking, easy to use, easy to assemble and maintain record player to try out vinyl, this is your best option.

It does its job

  Being as affordable as it is, you see where they cut the corners. It's very light weight, so you will make sure that you have its surface pretty well isolated from excessive vibration. You can also see the cost cutting on the simple control buttons. They are very light plastic buttons that you toggle in to active the arm and the speed etc

 I am able to start collecting again and that is what I want, to be able to enjoy the collection. I feel at this price point, this is worth dipping your toe back in the pond without having to spend crazy hard core audiophile money to do it. I know over time if I keep it up and continue to enjoy it, I can upgrade to something else more hardy later. But for this price point, I'm very happy with the sound, the ease of setup, the price

Pros: I've owned this turntable for a year and 3 months at the time of this writing. It sounds very good and the price can't be beat. I like the fully-automatic operation and enjoy watching it move around like a jukebox. It's a good little workhorse that I've been using almost daily since buying it

 how am I supposed to adjust the speed with the platter upright and spinning and be able to use a screwdriver on the bottom of the turntable? Good question. The answer is it's a royal pain in the ***! I first had to buy a strobe card, since the turntable doesn't have a built-in strobe pattern, and use a work light with a true incandescent bulb (needed for the strobe pattern). I had to sit with the turntable balanced on the corner of my entertainment center with a record spinning and carefully adjust the speed with a screwdriver. And the speed adjustment is a finicky thing

  The other con of this review isn't a big complaint. The built-in phono-stage isn't good. This should be expected of any turntable with line-out. It gives everything a harsh sound, not warm at all

 What we have here is the holy grail of dual turntables, it's the dual 1229 and You can see the model number right there still got to do a little bit of a cleanup of the the shell and the case here But what I've done is I've actually mechanically gotten everything functioning correctly The cam which is the inside guts of these turntables is Usually what what goes on them and it's not because they fail it's because they have Dried grease on them. So what I did was I completely disassembled the cam and all of the working components and Stripped it out of all the the old dried sticky grease and re-greased the The cam and the arm mechanism put a new brand new sturer pimple Which is the mechanism which causes the arm to swing over in automatic mode and I put a nice really nice cartridge on it Yeah Yeah Everything is now functioning correctly. So let's just give her a start This is an automatic mode Obviously, you can also use the arm lifter and do everything manually But just to show all the mechanisms and everything are correctly working And there you have it, there is a delay from one channel to the next There's a little bit of a switch tweak inside that it's a bugger to get Just perfectly. So I've been playing with that Otherwise sounds fabulous Sorry for the scratchy record

 So that's one mechanism that I haven't tested out Nor will I because I don't believe in wrecking my records And there you go Off she comes so there you have it a working dual 1229 the holy grail of dual turntables Very desirable collector's piece They are old units. This is the Noresco cabinet on it You can get newer cabinets, this one is, you know, it's seen some use so I'm not gonna lie But otherwise functionally the the turntable works phenomenally, so Somebody that wanted to do a little more restoration could probably do that But as far as the mechanical portions of it it it's working portions of it it it's working just great Just to show got the cue lever here then we can move it over Plunk it down Really scratchy turn record actually Playing it on an old tube amplifier that I built Playing it on an old tube amplifier that I built Then when you want to stop it There you hear the cutouts and off she comes Settles into its armrest and everything shuts off same idea. Dual 1229 Turntable Demonstration

I can only talk about the Dual, as I have that model and the 1229. Try and find a repairer in your country that fixes turntables, or better still, is familiar with Duals. Parts are still available for them. The thing with Duals of that vintage is they're all mechanical

Now I was looking for a budget one, around €300 and saw the rega p1 which seems like a good one to get (already have a preamp).

But today at my parents they said, we have 2 old ones you can take. They have an Philips electronics 312 and a dual 1219.

Now they say those were quite good ones at the time, but quite used.

I dont know what I should do now. I can use some money to get new a new element and needle for one of the older ones or just buy a new one.

Anyone got some advice or tips? Like any way to check if the old ones are still good? And the changing of elements, I dont know if its easy to do with the two or if there is a specific element that I need to find etc.
