 Hi I'm Ed from Edthorn.com here to try and help you guys make the most out of your home studios and obviously in our home studios we need an audio interface of some kind. The Audient ID series of audio interfaces represent fantastic value for money given the quality and the features they host compared to other audio interfaces in the same price range. The ID14M1 was probably the best all-around interface in this video comparing 10 of the top audio interfaces available for under $300 and there was some stiff competition in that video and the ID14M2 goes a long way to further solidify this audio interface as the best in its class

 This version is fitted with two extra outputs and two headphone sockets capable of powering headphones with an impedance of up to 600 ohms but more on both of these features later. The level meter LEDs on the MK2 are now all white or red at clipping. The monitor, ID and headphone buttons are also white. I used to quite like the yellow and green function buttons on the MK1 and also the input metering traffic light system

BEST UNDER $300? Audient iD14mkii Audio Interface Review

I'm a 30+ year audio producer and I've been through a lot of A-D converters. I read some stellar reviews on the iD14, so decided to take the plunge and see for myself. Found it on Amazon for about $30 cheaper than the big "discount" audio websites, and got it overnight with my Prime. Owning a brick-and-mortar store myself, I can't help but envy Amazon's amazing logistics

 And the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Gen) USB Audio Interface with Pro Tools | First is $150 cheaper.

It's good, but I like my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 better.

I have been looking for quite a while online and really haven't found anything in the general price range, or relatively higher priced that has a comparably better pre-amp than the M2(I'm talking even upwards of $500). There's the always compared SSL2 which seems to have a similar powered preamp but lacking in my opinion, and the Audient ID14 which, similarly seems lacking to me. I checked into the ID22 but the differences in Pre-amp given doesn't seem to justify a $300 difference.

 We're going to use OBS. First, set the Loopback source to DAW one two, or you can use master mix or even one of the cue mixes if you want a little more control over the levels going into OBS. But we'll use one two. In OBS, create an audio input capture, name it DAW audio, set the input to Loopback one two, then play audio in your DAW and you'll see it in OBS

 To record non-DAW computer audio into your into your DAW, like a video playing in a browser, first I'll set the playback engine for Windows to analog three four. You could also use one two and just mute the channel in your DAW. The iD14 should also be the playback engine for your DAW, and the default output is one two. Set the Loopback source to DAW three four since that's what we're using for Windows

 On the rear, you have four-line outputs. This is where you can connect your studio monitors, external headphone amp, or send audio to external processors, and you'll set this up in the iD mixer app. If you want to use speaker switching, set one of your outputs to ALT speaker, and then when you play back, you can listen to your main monitors and then click the ALT button to check your mix on another pair. You can also switch the iD button to ALT and use that to switch speakers

Audient iD14 MKII Audio Interface - EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW

 The unit is sturdy and doesn't feel cheap.  Latency: absolutely terrible, running a i7 and at the minimal latency setting there were awful pops and clicks making my focusrite look like a 1000 dollar interface. The recommended latency setting almost felt like a full second before sound was processed in my daw.  Price: others have said that this is the "best" before you start getting into higher priced interfaces

Drivers were easy and it was up and running in about 5 ...

 Like always I'll throw some links down below and in the sake of full disclosure I do want to let you know that Audient did send me the iD14 and the iD4 for the sake of doing this review as well as a bunch of other tests. With that being said for this review I have the Rode NT1 connected directly to the iD14. My gain is set at around one o'clock. I am recording at 24-bit 48 kilohertz

 The entire chassis is made out of metal and feels extremely durable, the dials are very tight and non-wobbly, the switches have a nice click to them when you flip them over, on, and off, they don't feel weak at all, the buttons have a nice tactile click as well so you know when you've pressed them, and the XLR combination jacks are not loose at all either, nothing out of the ordinary. Next to walk through the features of this interface, on the top you will find input 1 and 2 gain controls, you will also find independent 48V phantom power on-off switches, next to that you will find a meter ranging from negative 36dB all the way up to 0dB which will show you the level of the headphones or speakers that you're adjusting as well as your playback level, beneath that you will find a USB light letting you know that you're plugged in and getting sufficient power. Then on the bottom right of the interface you will find 3 buttons, the first one being a button to select the monitors and allow you to adjust the level for the monitors, on the right hand side you will find a headphone button to allow you to adjust the level of the headphones, and in the center it has the ID button which you're able to assign to do specific functions from the software if you want to do anything like that but if you don't you can just use this to scroll around on your computer. Then above that you have the massive volume control which you will use to control the headphone and the monitor levels and it also is a massive button so if you push this what I found is it mutes the computer playback

 Then on the bottom right of the interface you will find 3 buttons, the first one being a button to select the monitors and allow you to adjust the level for the monitors, on the right hand side you will find a headphone button to allow you to adjust the level of the headphones, and in the center it has the ID button which you're able to assign to do specific functions from the software if you want to do anything like that but if you don't you can just use this to scroll around on your computer. Then above that you have the massive volume control which you will use to control the headphone and the monitor levels and it also is a massive button so if you push this what I found is it mutes the computer playback. On the front of the interface you will find a single Hi-Z quarter inch input which does allow you to plug an instrument directly into this, we'll test that a little bit later, and this also takes over the XLR port in the rear of the interface meaning you cannot run a mic into channel 1 and an instrument into this Hi-Z input as well, you just need to pick one or the other. And then on the other side of the front you will find a quarter inch and eighth inch headphone jack for computer playback and zero latency monitoring, then on the rear of the interface you will find the USB-C port for data transfer and power, that is right this is a bus powered interface, you will then find an optical input for ADAT or SPDIF expansion so you are able to add up to eight additional external preamp channels to this if your external preamp allows for that

Audient ID14 MKII Audio Interface Review / Explained

 I can certainly see why Audient went this way but this makes this interface more suited for stationary use. That said this seems to be the way Audient is going with this interface anyways. The layout of the buttons and knobs leave plenty of room between the controls which makes the interface very easy to use. Additionally the build quality is very good

 Next to them you got your two quarter inch balanced outputs.   Sadly it doesn't have a built in hardware limiter as far as I can tell, which I've heard from a few sources is superior to a software limiter (I'm not sure why it doesn't work nearly as well). That would have definitely been a nice feature but I get the impression those are only found in more expensive equipment, something to consider.  This unit doesn't provide quite as much gain as I would personally like. It would be nice if there was quite a bit of extra headroom to keep the gain low and in turn the background noise low

I am personally a newbie to audio interfaces and this is my first venture into this type of product. I feel like I've got a relatively good ear for music and discerning different audio equipment. To me the background noise when it is set to a high gain is pretty impressively low. Now I really haven't owned a variety of audio interfaces or have major experience with recording equipment so take that with a grain of salt

  This unit doesn't provide quite as much gain as I would personally like. It would be nice if there was quite a bit of extra headroom to keep the gain low and in turn the background noise low. I'm running an SM58, I don't have a huge amount of experience with other mics so I don't know if that is a particularly gain hungry mic, I didn't think so but maybe ill get a better idea later. Possibly more gain is something I would get with more expensive gear, I should really research that more in the future

Is The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Studio 3rd Gen Worth it ?! (A Honest Review)

So basically I want to be able to record my guitar amp Roland JC-22  into Logic via the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface, however when I do this by connecting the amp line outs into the focusrite's inputs, it just sounds terrible- really tinny and weird. It sounds much better just recording direct from the guitar pedals into the focusrite.

I recently purchased the Scarlett solo 3rd gen for recording my bass guitar. I ended up having to return it as the audio would only playback on the left and I couldn’t seem to fix the unwanted distortion issue from the unit itself. I was recommended to purchase a Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 or a Focusrite 2i2 instead.

My search continues for a device that allows me to record a bass line on my PC!  (I am curious how much money I will have to spend in the end, for what should be a simple task)

 I would rate them as a neutral sound, with perhaps just a slight hint of darkness to them. Hands-down, the price performance leader according to my own research.
