The Asus RT-AC88U has more than just a ton of LAN ports

 Initially thinking Amazon's Server was down, and I started checking and actually found the 2.4G radio in the 88U was not transmitting! Called Asus and they had me Re-Boot and insure I had the latest Firmware (I did) and it started working. Hung up the phone and thanked the CSR. Just a Hiccup? No! Within 5 Minutes the 2

... I suggested that for all the wasted time I spent on the phone and hours going through failed suggestions on how to correct the problems plus 3 trips in Returns to UPS that Asus pay the difference if they think this was the only way to supply me with a reliable, working Router

 I ordered the RT-AC88U instead and for the first 2 weeks, it was great,and I loved the 8 onboard Ethernet Ports. Then one morning we found none of our Smart Home Alexa Devices would respond. Initially thinking Amazon's Server was down, and I started checking and actually found the 2.4G radio in the 88U was not transmitting! UPDATE 3.28.19 -Asus Contacted Me -/ 2.4G  FAILURE is a Fact that Asus has now acknowledged.

  Update 02/06/2021 Gig speed solution. I just got gigabit speed for internet and my router was stuck between 150-300 Mbps up and down. SUX0R If this happens to you, turn off QoS and be sure to reboot your router again. Just pressing 'Apply' is not enough for the setting to take effect

 **Backup your smart home device settings and routines BEFORE taking your old router offline. This includes Alexa devices and plugs, bulbs, etc.** If you are not willing to do this then DO NOT REPLACE YOUR ROUTER.  I've had a rock solid network using RT-AC68W for the last 4 years or so

 SUX0R If this happens to you, turn off QoS and be sure to reboot your router again. Just pressing 'Apply' is not enough for the setting to take effect. My speed now averages 840-940 Mbps with just that one change.

Spotty 2.4 or connection issues? Got Gigabit but stuck at 300 Mbps?

  Results: I can't tell you if the speed is really much faster since I just installed last night. And I probably need to get an X-Box to give it an acid test (assuming gaming requires the most connection power). But this thing's coverage is insane! When I finished setting up the Access Point in the garage, I just realized I have full bars wifi signal of the AC88U SSID! That means it punches through several drywalls and one concrete wall and almost 50 feet distance. It makes the setup of AP seems dumb, but I still want to have a router in the front as the portal

 Cost efficiency: $225 a router to extend the wifi range. Of course I get to hard-wired with many devices and probably get better speed.  Installation: I thought all I have to do is just swap out the old router. But it still took me almost three hours to finish the whole setup

 But those cables are really giving me headache). And it also includes the time I have to move my desktop and RT-AC66U to the garage to set up the Access Point.  Results: I can't tell you if the speed is really much faster since I just installed last night. And I probably need to get an X-Box to give it an acid test (assuming gaming requires the most connection power)

Penetrating walls and strong singal

 I was fine with our old Linksys that died after this time frame but hell is was 60 bucks 🤦‍♂️. Don't buy this router get a Netgear or hell any router would be a better investment.

 I'm constantly fighting this router now, we have no cell phone signal where we live so we rely on wifi and this router is not reliable at all anymore. Can't believe I paid 275 bucks for this thing and it died this fast. I was fine with our old Linksys that died after this time frame but hell is was 60 bucks 🤦‍♂️. Don't buy this router get a Netgear or hell any router would be a better investment

 I of course did my testing you know with my laptop or hybrid or tablet whatever you want to call it. So coverage is great even at three levels higher here still great coverage. For me the most surprising thing was that with this router sitting here me walking all the way to the garden house 50 meters away from here I was still getting a quarter of the reception it could possibly give you and we were still getting throughputs of 30 megabytes a second which is pretty insane. So you only need one of these if you live in a large house which I guess is why Netgear describes it as that

 There's also USB 3.0 port for hard drives, printers all that sort of stuff so you can use this as a DLNA server. Pretty cool stuff there as well. But yeah how about the range of this thing because on their website they describe this as for very large homes which is very very vague

 So for the routing portion you can either turn routing off completely at which point it's just a switch and an access point which is what I think most people will actually do because when you live in Belgium like I do your ISP already gives you a wireless router and you just use the route the wireless router they give you. You use that one as a modem and then you use your own one because their routers are usually shit. But anyway you can turn routing protocols on and off. You have access to options such as RIP

Netgear Nighthawk R7000 AC1900 Review

 Hello everyone it's Loris here from Unicorn Reviews and today we're having a

 look at Netgear's Nighthawk router. So this is the R7000 or also known as the

 AC1900 model. Basically it's a simultaneous dual band router so you get

 600 on the 2.4 GHz range and then the other 1300 on the 5 GHz range.

 Of course you still have to divide those two values because they just add upload

 and download up. So you get 650 megabits, theoretically of course, download or

 upload. Obviously you can't quite reach these values but it's still a

 pretty good thing but we're gonna go into detail about those things later. Now

 first of all what's in the box? Basically this unit itself, the router itself,

 there's also this giant power brick. Now as you can see the router itself is
