While I can't speak to how any mattress will "feel" for someone else because this is too subjective and relative to different body types, sleeping positions, and individual preferences, sensitivities, and circumstances ... outside of PPP and how well you sleep the most important part of the value of a mattress purchase is durability which is all about how long you will sleep well on a mattress

We've been talking about upgrading from a queen to a king for a while now. She likes her parents' bed, a Sealy Hybrid Premium plush top (the most expensive mattress they sell) on the most expensive sealy adjustable frame. Her parents had to downgrade to a queen due to the price (5K for a queen), but they love it. I admit, it does feel nice (at only 6 months old) but it's also WAY outside my budget.

I made the mistake of saying DIY mattress to her, she has less than zero interest in doing any research. In her eyes, store + name brand = guaranteed perfect quality always; especially if you buy their most expensive product! And she wants that sealy 10 year warranty (which is apparently the best in the business?) ...I also don't have $7K, and while I would qualify for a loan, I don't exactly want to take out a 5 year loan for a bed!

To avoid making this a relationship question, how can I emphasize the benefits of DIY over a (in my opinion) VASTLY overpriced sealy mattress? Or is there another, cheaper, commercial mattress someone would recommend? Thank you for reading!

Fiancee wants $7K Sealy bed like her parents, I want DIY

 I was very upset because it cost a little over $2k. The company came over, refunded our previous purchase (the local mattress company is 100% amazing & accommodating), placed the frame - 2 XL twin box springs under the mammoth king size. The company threw a bed in a bag into the mix for free. ***Complaints about the mattress only, not the business are as follows*** I

 The last 2 spring mattresses have somehow had busted coils within the first month. My last one was awful. I had to put old pillows under it, purchase a mattress topper (on here - Amazon) & that thing’s elastic holder popped the first time adjusting it. My husband insisted I return it, but I just didn’t have the energy

 Financing a new mattress from a store is truly a nightmare because you cannot return, only exchange for something else in that price range. With the price of this one, you are better off getting a sleep number bed with the base and everything.  My boyfriend loved this mattress but even he had an issue with the smell at first. I’ve owned foam toppers and other mattresses before and this is different from that “new smell” needs to “air”

 We’ve had this for a month and I feel like I can’t breathe and wake up in the middle of the night because of it. I am naturally someone very sensitive to chemicals and if you are too - AVOID. They are lying in the store and online when they say the smell isn’t that bad or fades away or just “new.” Find something else that doesn’t have the foam cooling technology or dark in color

Very comfortable mattress, NO odor at all

 The cover is very soft and I was skeptical, but the chill silver cover does keep your body cool.  I haven’t been able to sleep on my right side for over 7 or so years until I purchased this mattress. I love so far.

I’ve had this mattress for 7 months and it is the most comfortable yet supportive mattress I have ever owned and I’ve owned Serta, Spring Air, and Simmons. I get the benefits of a memory foam bed in that it conforms to your curves yet the zoned springs support your body head to toe. The cover is very soft and I was skeptical, but the chill silver cover does keep your body cool.  I haven’t been able to sleep on my right side for over 7 or so years until I purchased this mattress

  This mattress releases an obnoxiously strong chemical odor. And 6 weeks after arrival it is still bad enough that we choose not to sleep on it for health concerns - we have it in a closed room with windows open to simply tolerate its presence in our home. After a long and drawn out ordeal we were finally able to return it to the store which we purchased it from.  Buyer beware - this smell is NOT something to dismiss, especially on such an expensive mattress - I simply could never recommend this mattress to anyone who values their health
