The Archer Ikon is sort of a 2 in one guitar pedal. It can be used as just a clean boost by turning the gain all the way down. As you introduce gain it will attenuate the clean signal but there is a magical blend in between that you will find. Please experiment!

 I tell you what, this pedal wasn't designed by a politician, definitely not and you know why, you know why? Because this is transparent and politicians don't even know what transparent means usually. So this is the most transparent pedal that I ever ever tried in my life, this is amazing, there's no compression at all so this is definitely not a tube screamer circuit, you know tube screamer circuit usually pushes the mid frequencies and adds a lot of compression into the sound when you increase the gain and put your lead guitar sound in the face, that's another completely different approach, I don't say that is better or worse or anything, that's just a different approach, why this one doesn't add any fucking compression, it doesn't add any middle range, any treble, any bass, anything, just overdrives the original signal, it's fucking amazing. So let's keep adding gain, let's see what's going on. So, the gain is at 3 o'clock and this was the first time I felt a bit of compression, still not much and a lot of overdrive now so it's proper overdrive sound now and maybe just a tad it started darkening the sound so after this spot, this was the sweet spot I think, the sweet spot is around 2 or 3 o'clock and it started darkening the sound so a bit of treble adjustment needed, let's see what's going on, keep going

 This company Jay Rocket Audio Designs came out with probably, probably a lot of people say this, probably the best clone of the original Clone Center pedal. So this pedal is available for around $190, $200 so it's not that expensive obviously this is a clone but a really good clone and as you can read it on the forums and even on the website of this company, the original designer Mr. Bill Finnegan have this company to designing this pedal so that's maybe the reason why it's so bloody close. They say it's very, very hard to hear the difference between the original and this pedal

 So first of all warranty card, nobody reads this sort of manual, it's a guitar pedal, you shouldn't read the manual but the pedal itself, here you go and I don't need the box anymore so let's see the pedal. This is gold because it clones the gold clone center, there was a silver and there was a gold and this pedal replicates, copies or clones whatever word or emulates the gold clone center so let's plug it in. Obviously when you start increasing the gain it will overdrive the original signal but doesn't color the sound so this is why the original clone center is a bloody masterpiece because it doesn't color the sound and that's why it's such sought after pedal and this one does a perfect job. Because the gain is at 9 o'clock now and still not much going on, maybe it started scratching the surface with the overdrive so the notes are a bit thicker, maybe it's fattened the sound up a bit, let's keep increasing the gain and see what's going on

. Maybe I'm wrong but my problems with this pedal go beyond the sounds and tone it produces, which is strange because I always judge gear by sound quality, not brand name, price or cosmetic looks..

 I've moved it around and connected it to an individual power supply and it still does it

 But the pedal comes in a same size enclousure as their "Archer" pedal... Nice and small, but heavy and sturdy

This is the newly reissued dod 250 Overdrive preamp it's a classic from Well, I guess the early 80s It must be nearly 30 years old since the first one came at the old Gray one with the LM 741 op amp in it this has got the same op amp better enclosure led readout 9 volt DC power true bypass and The tone it's got the tone now in my opinion this preamp works a little bit better with an amp It's already in slight breakup mode So I'm using the clean channel of my lanny bh100r and with this Smitty S style guitar and some really rebellion pickups. It sounds like this clean If we turn the gain all the way down all the way down the dod 250 will act as a clean boost Add some gain and get some gain I'll show you what it sounds like with a very pristine clean channel first of all back the gain off again There's our clean tone You see what I mean by clean boost it's a clean boost Now as soon as we add the gain it's going to add a touch of hair most of that hair is focused in the upper mid-range So it's going to be quite sharp sanding through a very clean air Almost like a treble booster not quite but along those lines as far as old-school overdrives go That's why I think it's better off with something that has already got a bit of breakup going on It's a great sound it actually adds dynamics and punch and that frequency that just cuts through for solos and stuff Which is why a few notables have been using it for quite a while.
