 The Specialize has upgraded this bike from the float Dps shock to the float Dpx2 Now, performance wise, I wouldn't say there's a drastic difference between the two, but the Dpx2 does get that piggyback reservoir and a higher oil volume, which means it's less likely to fade on longer descends. In terms of rear suspension setup, Specialize recommends around 28 to 30 sag for the Levo Sl. However, the suspension on this bike is quite linear and while it does mean it's very comfortable and active and will likely suit beginner riders and those who aren't necessarily riding at high speeds, I did find I was bottoming out the suspension quite regularly. With that in mind, I added a bigger volume spacer inside the air can, which improved both bottom out and mid-stroke support and really gave this bike a more poppy ride quality on the trail

 And that wasn't helped by our test bike having sticky pistons in the brake calipers. Fresh out of the box, It doesn't exactly have the blingiest build kit for a 15 000 bike. We've got alloy handlebars, alloy crank arms, a Gx Eagle cassette, and alloy wheels, but clearly specializes. Put most of the money of this bike into the frame, the motor, and the high-end suspension

 However, the suspension on this bike is quite linear and while it does mean it's very comfortable and active and will likely suit beginner riders and those who aren't necessarily riding at high speeds, I did find I was bottoming out the suspension quite regularly. For beginner riders, the stock tune is likely to be absolutely fine, but for more aggressive riders who are riding faster and hitting bigger drops, consider adding a bigger volume spacer inside the shock to increase progression. The third change is with the brakes, so the previous bike came with Sram G2 brakes, which were a little squishy and underpowered

 It's got a 51 millimeter fork offset and a 66 degree head angle, so it's not super raked out and it means there's not really any understeer that you have to battle through sharp turns. The suspension is nice and active, which makes it comfortable, but also generates plenty of grip through the turns, which is complemented by the specialized tyres. Those looking for a super high powered E-mountain bike experience will be disappointed with the Sl 1.1 motor, but I like it on really tricky technical climbs where the power delivery is really smooth and consistent

How much does your main bike cost?

Overall, my new bike isn’t as sharp as my old hardtail. The suspension takes the edge off… That’s its job lol. You feel though. If you’re new to mountain biking, you won’t notice these trade offs at all

Close to making a purchase. One thing holding me up is that the bike I’m looking at (Biktrix Juggernaut Duo Ultra) is a hardtail. I was wanting full suspension, but the FS model has a minimum height of 5’7 and I’m 5’6 with shoes on…

But I’m wondering if I’ll regret not getting a FS. $4k is a lot to spend and I don’t want to have to buy twice. My plan is to hit trails and eventually work my way to mountain trails, so I expect some bumpy rides. I’m also a heavy guy, around 300lbs today, but I do plan on getting that down. I thought about adding a suspension seat and fat tires for the hardtail, but again… just looking for some advice. Thanks!

Hardtail vs Full-suspension for eMTB

An ebike will get you out on two wheels more overall - mine always puts a smile on my face and a little sweat on my brow.  Something like a Specialized Turbo Vado SL is like a regular sporty bike, with a little bit of help.  I strongly recommend.

I live in the suburbs and have been wanting to get rid of my car for a while. I just got a really good offer for my car and wanted to sell it but it can be difficult in the suburbs with shit public transport.

Most of my trips are within 10 miles round trip which are fine on a regular bike. Going to Target like 2 miles away takes about 10 minutes compared to 6 minutes via car. My gym is a couple miles away as well, definitely bikeable. The nearest train station is just over 4 miles and takes 22 minutes via bike and 12 minutes via car.

However, there are a lot of places I go to that are further away. Like I go to Costco which is 7 miles away, not to mention the difficulty of having to carry a lot of groceries on a bike. There are other ~15 mile trips that I make pretty regularly that I need to drive. Those kinds of trips take like 25 minutes on a car and over an hour on bike, and biking that much would get me there exhausted and sweaty.

So I have been thinking of using some of the money I make from selling my car to get a nice ebike. That would make those longer trips a bit shorter and much less exhausting.

My only concern is it getting stolen. Nice ebikes cost like thousands of dollars and even good quality, expensive locks that weigh 10 pounds can be cut through in about a minute.
