 Test number two is kind of in between a little further away from the router. And then test number three is the farthest away from the router. Test three shows that the Alien was able to have a further range and boost more speed than the Orbi did. However, this is again only testing one Orbi and one Alien

 Both the Orbi and the Amplify Alien can be meshed via WiFi or wired ethernet. However, most people are going to use the wireless backhaul. And here we have the speed test results. When I did this test, I made sure that both the Orbi and the Alien router were the exact same location

 The Aliens have landed. Today I'm looking at the Amplify Alien Wi-Fi 6 Router. Amplify

 is part of a company called Ubiquiti, who are known for enterprise-based networking.

 The Amplify arm of the company focuses more on home or prosumer networking products. Amplify

 and Ubiquiti products are not ones you can just walk into any Best Buy and purchase.

 You can find the Alien on the official store or at specific distributors. The company is

 known for having a dedicated community and giving its customers many options. Like their

 enterprise products, the Alien supports scalable mesh, meaning you can purchase multiple Alien

 routers and combine a much larger network. However, you cannot combine any of Ubiquiti's

 other products' lines with the Alien. The Alien also supports the latest Wi-Fi 6 standard,

 low and high bands, as well as features like multi-user, MIMO, QoS. It even comes with

 a built-in ad blocker, but more on that later. Amplify only provides one Alien in the box.

 However, there is a package you can get that comes with an extra satellite. The Alien looks

 very sleek in matte black. It also has a soft touch material. The packaging it comes with

 is nice and not too large. Easy to pack away for storage, as you should always keep the

 boxes of your toys. It is part of what you're paying for after all. The Alien is not too

 heavy nor is it very bulky. Its narrow in design makes it fit in the majority of spaces.

 Around the back, we see some ventilation holes, and these also act as speaker holes, as the

 Alien has a built-in speaker for notifications. The Alien cannot be used as a speaker, although

 that would be pretty neat. We also have 4 gigabit LAN ports at the back. The WAN port

 and the power are hidden at the base of the unit, where a small cutout at the bottom is

 there to feed the wires. The WAN is only gigabit, so for the very few that have 2.5 gigabit

 internet connections, you won't get that here. Included within the box are some instructions

 informing you to download the Amplify app to help finish during the setup process, the

 power cord, and an ethernet cable. With the power and ethernet connected from the modem,

 let's get started. On first startup, the beautiful LCD screen and LED light at the base turn

 on and you are presented with an initializing screen with a progress bar. During this process,

 download and load up the Amplify app and the Alien will be found and you will even see

 on the screen that your phone has connected with a picture of which type of phone you

 actually have. In my case, it's the iPhone 11 Pro. Pretty neat. Then you get a very satisfying

 sound notification. A new firmware is automatically detected. You can confirm the install either

 from the app or by touching the update button on the Alien LCD screen. Naturally, I use

 the touch screen. After about 5 to 10 minutes, the firmware is downloaded and installed.

 I chose to name my router the same so all my existing devices could automatically connect

 to the Alien right after. And here we have the Alien LCD information screen. From the

 top, we can see the time and day. We can run an internet speed test. There's a network

 activity area with cool wavy indicator. The Wi-Fi experience section, which the higher

 the number the better. The number of devices that are connected. And we even see the temperature,

 CPU and memory usage. Pretty cool. There is another screen you can flip to that allows

 you to adjust the LCD brightness and the LED lights at the base of the Alien router. And

 look at that, a fan RPM indicator. Yes, the Alien has a built-in fan. Now, many routers

 do have built-in fans, especially the newer ones. And no, it doesn't always run. And

 when it does run, it runs at a low RPM and you cannot hear it. You will see here we are

 sitting at around 62 degrees. Pretty normal. Pro tip, turning down the LCD brightness and

 LED lights on the Alien lowered the temperature by around 5 degrees. The out of the box 100%

 is too bright anyway. You're not going to want to keep it at that. The LED lights are

 neat and yes, you can turn them off if you don't like it. Sadly, there is no customization

 beyond brightness control. So you're stuck with the green, which of course is very fitting

 for the Alien branding. Let's run a speed test directly from the Alien. My connection

 is 500 down 500 up on a fiber connection. The Alien will try and choose the fastest

 server automatically for its test. You cannot choose where test from. Anytime you run a
