 A lot of people have been complaining about the hiss on this amp and I've been able to eliminate that as a factor by disabling the tweeter. Basically you just take off the front face panel, well the face cloth, and open up the tweeter and just sort of disconnect it and you know tie those wires together and twist ties and voila. It does change the sound a little bit and if you want to get some more treble and you have to push the treble a little bit more but actually it really doesn't make much of a difference but it takes away that annoying hiss that everybody's complaining about. So give it a try

Ampeg BA-115 Demo

 Also put in a Fralin 5% underwound P bass pickup. So it's a lot of pickup for a Squier but with any electric instrument this is to a degree what you're playing. So it's got good coupling to the body with a better bridge, there's nothing wrong with the body and the neck, it's got a really good quality P bass pickup now. This could have been a Duncan, this could have been a DiMarzio, etc

 I went with Fralin because I knew that this would be a good test point for almost any amp that this ever gets played through. So with the 500k audio, linear and 250k audio, everything full up on this Ampeg, I want to roll that down slightly to more of a standard P bassing, I can roll it down more, do some fake Motown stuff. This doesn't have flats, it doesn't have the foam so it's not going to do the full Motown thing. I'm going to palm mute to fake it a little bit or just get a kitchen sponge

 But that's down the line if I wanted to get into expensive additions like a kitchen sponge. The bass came with D'Addario 45-105 nickel strings, those are fine. I put on some DR lowrider 40-100, I like the tension of them and I knew that I had a lot of strength to rebuild and just going with a slightly lighter gauge gave me a leg up on that. As I redevelop my technique, as I redevelop my hand strength, I may go to a thicker gauge on these but I'm really happy with it

Pleasing P-Bass Progress and Testing the Ampeg BA-115

 I figure they were probably thinking that with the input for a CD (or iPod) for play along practice, you are going to want to have those high frequencies so it's not just mud. Plus, maybe you will want to plug in a keyboard or something. Unfortunately they have a hissy amp and the tweeter reveals that. But at the price you are not going to get everything, I suppose

 Compared to that, the Ampeg BA-115 is somewhat more muddy and less detailed. It does not make my bass sound quite as good as it is capable of sounding. I would consider miking up the Markbass for recording, whereas I would not do that with the Ampeg BA-115. Direct would be better

 Research also led me to understand the amp comes with a high level of hiss emanating from a piezo tweeter. But given how well the amp features matched what I was looking for, I figured at worse I could install a switch on the tweeter if the hiss was too obnoxious.  When I finally got the amp, I was happy to find that the hiss was not as bad as I was primed to expect as long as I set the Treble tone control at 12 o' clock or less. It was noticeable for sure, and not pleasant, but not obnoxious

 Above 12 o'clock it is obnoxious. I'm currently using the amp with the Style selector on 3 (flat response), Bass and Mids at 12 o'clock, and Treble dialed down a little. For me, it sounds about as good as that amp can sound at those settings, but my bass has really great tone to begin with.  One may ask why put a tweeter on a bass amp anyway? So many great bass amps never had one

Good at the price

 Before I knew it, it was 10 across the board and the thing had only just kicked in.  I have a cheap no name 10 watt amp that has no low to speak of. I've been cheating and running the bass through that and plugging the bookshelf stereo into the headphone jack of the 10 watt practice amp and that sounds pretty good.  When I decided to buy a "real" amp, I took the wattage of the desktop stereo, which is 75, and added a few for kicks, came up with 100, and found this thing

 It made some promising and frighting cracking and popping noises as I turned it on and plugged in the bass with the volume on 1, and as I turned up the volume to about 3, I could feel the bass kick in. It looks like it should shake the apartment, so I kept inching the volume up. Before I knew it, it was 10 across the board and the thing had only just kicked in.  I have a cheap no name 10 watt amp that has no low to speak of

 I'm not sure how to say this, but my Panasonic bookshelf stereo has deeper, richer, punchier bass. It'll rattle stuff I leave on its little 8 inch speakers, and unlike the Ampeg, I've never turned it anywhere near all of the way up. This Ampeg amp just seems to be struggling.  This is extra annoying because I was thinking it would be nice to have a beefier sound system, and the Ampeg has line in, so I could run a Discman style CD player and other things into the Ampeg and replace the stereo

 The amp got locked in the closet but the smell oozed out, so I put it back in the box and tried to air out the apartment. When I first took it out of the box, the two largest silica packets I've ever seen came out with it. They're about hackey sack sized. I tried again this morning and trying to play this thing, I have a screaming headache

Fender Rumble 500 would be my best overall, all rounder amp pick. Light, loud, sounds good, versatile, well priced.

I'm looking for an affordable Jazz bass and amp.

I was a little disappointed by the sound of this amp. To my ears, it's not as punchy (or tight) as I would like. It has a bit of mud and hollowness that I don't typically like to hear. However, the price is outstanding, and I have no problem at all carrying it around

 I've been able to dial in a bit better tone by putting an eq/booster pedal in front of it. If the tone sounded more like the traditional Fender sound (like an old Bassman), I'd give it 5 stars. But unfortunately, it just sounds like a generic bass combo.

 I tried five amps and returned three, and my only cost was $18 to ship the Rumble 15 back to Amazon.

 I'm guessing that this is a great stage amp for a medium/large venue, but it's not for your house.  100 – Awesome sound, still much more amp than I need in my home, but I get a beautiful tone out of it, and it sounds great at low volume. Has the same controls as the 200 and the 40: gain, adjustable overdrive, and four tone controls (bass, low-mid, high-mid, and treble). Three filter buttons – I like “bright” and “vintage” together

 I settled on the 100 and the 25, but if I could afford only one amp, it would be the 40. Here’s the rundown:  200 – Jaw-dropping sound and volume, but WAY too much amp for home use. It’s “only” 140 watts to the speaker, but even at low power it was rattling my brain cage. The huge 15" speaker sounds mushy at lowest, "household" volume, and this is not the case with the other amps

 The 200 may be the exception to this – it’s $150 more than the 100, but it only delivers 40 more watts to the speaker. That speaker, however, is a 15-inch, compared to the 12-inch on the 100, so maybe it’s worth it to you. The bang-for-the-buck award definitely goes to the 25 – great sound for a hundred bucks and a small box!  I’m a very happy camper with the 100 and the 25. For practice, jamming, and small venues, though, you really don’t need more than the 40

Comparing the 15, 25, 40, 100, and 200 combos –

I’ve been a guitar player for 25 years when I got into playing the bass a few months ago. I first got the rumble 25 but returned it because I felt that I had to turn it up too much to get the volume I needed next to my drummer, who has a small kit and a light touch. (I did love the sound and simplicity of the 25 though! Also, sounded fantastic with a clean Strat.) With the 100 I never have to turn it up beyond half way on the master and 25% on the gain

 I also like to put an eq pedal in front of it to get the exact sounds I hear in my head. This amp will bring out what’s in your guitar as my p-bass and my jazz sound radically different through it. It also doubles as a solid acoustic amp for my Django style guitar with a Bigtone piezo pickup. I can’t believe the quality of gear you can get these days for the money, versus 20-25 years ago!

 (I did love the sound and simplicity of the 25 though! Also, sounded fantastic with a clean Strat.) With the 100 I never have to turn it up beyond half way on the master and 25% on the gain. (If I played in a rock or metal band, I would go for the 200 though.) With a 12 inch speaker the amp is still surprisingly light and portable

The volume knobs were a bit scratchy sounding when I bought it new. I've had the amp over a year and they are the same but no worse. It seems to be somewhat of an issue that these amps have. It is only noticeable when if you are listening for it and only happens between half and full volume

 The 410 8ohm cab with a 500 watt head, will only put out 350 watts on it's own. It would require another 8ohm extension cab (dropping the total ohm load to 4ohm) to produce the full 500 watts, whereas this 500 210 combo produces 350 watts on its own, and will produce the full 500 watts simply by adding a 210 extension cabinet. This would be my preferred method if I needed more power simply because it would offer more flexibility for traveling to smaller gigs. 

Music played through the Aux input doesn't sound very well to my ears. Very muddy and dark. Almost like music played through a bass amp. (Imagine that)

. hook it up, turn it on and crank it up. The 10" speaker packs a punch and provides plenty of volume for small rooms no problem. The XLS Out is the real prize though

 Of course Corona put a damper on things for about the last 4 months or so but prior to the end of the world, we played a huge gig for St. Patricks and the Rumble 40 stood up nicely. The thing that stangs out the most is the XLS output jack in the back that allowed our sound guy to plug it into the giant sub cub speaker stand and basically fill the room with atomic level boom boom. It was awesome! Cheers! Keep rocking everyone! Be safe out there!

Small size and lite-weight but power packed. I am impressed with this little Bass Amplifier by Fender - the Rumble 40 V3 is surprisingly well put together. Don't let the small size of this Amp fool you.
