From the start there were some minor software issues. It took a little while to get set up, with my Galaxy S8+ not picking up the device. Eventually after some resets and software updates I got it going. But then I similar had trouble getting music going (spotify in particular), which I eventually was able to resolve (music on a GPS is watch awesome by the way)

 It happened to me and I ended up regretting my purchase big time. Anyone claiming that the FR series is of equal durable to the Fenix series is performing some serious mental gymnastics. Get your hands on both and you'll understand what I mean. 

 The bluetooth is much better, maintaining an actually-usable music connection to my earbud on the opposite side and never failing to connect to devices. The setup and software side were flawless, just like with my returned Fenix 5X. Also it's often reported that you need the new Forerunners for Incident Detection and Assistant, and I can confirm that this is false. It has definitely been back-ported to the Fenix 5 Plus series

 Eventually after some resets and software updates I got it going. Not pleased

 I read a review online which suggested that the 945 tracks accurately which simply isn’t even remotely true. It’s useless when biking - it regularly says my average HR during rides is only about 100 or less overall, even ones where I’m dripping sweat and out of breath. 

 If I had the choice of buying the 935 for full retail at $500 or the 945 for $600, I’d definitely go with the 945 (again, assuming the battery issue is just with my unit). You probably aren’t going to have to pay full retail for the 935 at this point, however, as it’s a prior model. Unless you absolutely must have music on your watch then I’d suggest picking up a 935 on the cheap somewhere or a Fenix 5 which I saw at REI for only $350 brand new as of last week. For $600, it simply doesn’t deliver that much more than the 935 can for significantly less money - even then, the 245 + music for only $350 is probably a much better option unless you really need maps or the altimeter

5 of those were with music) over about 4 days and was down to 14% battery. When new, my 935 would have gotten probably about double that. I don’t know if I got a defective model or something but my commute to and from work via bicycle is about 50 mins each way. Without music, it would drain 8-10% battery

Forerunner 935 is better

I haven’t used a sports watch before, and as well as using it for triathlon-specific training, I’d like to use it for the other sports which I usually partake in (football, tennis, weight training etc), and general day-to-day activities. Looking online, it appears the Garmin Forerunner 945 is my best bet.

First, the most annoying thing for me was the Forerunner often lagged a half second after each press of the buttons. It felt like it wasn’t responding so I would often press the buttons multiple times and then it caught up and jumped menus on me

 Then I remembered… I get a TON of notifications thru my phone, so that had my watch active a lot. I went into Garmin Connect and turned off ALL phone notifications, then just turned on the notifications for calls and texts (because that’s all I want to see on my watch)… and the battery life improved dramatically. Still too soon to make the final call, but I think it’s good now. Just something to be aware of

 I felt like the Fenix 5 Plus was a bit too large and the 5s Plus was a bit too small. The 945 is right in between and a perfect size for me. The battery life is also much better than my Fenix 5s Plus was. If you want the best smart watch on the market, get an apple/samsung watch with some fitness features

 As far a features go, this has all of the features as the Fenix 5x Plus (including a pulse oximeter, spotify, maps, etc) and even more new features including body battery, sleep pulse ox, etc. It also seems to be more responsive. I had the Fenix 5s Plus, returned it and got this. It's much lighter, thinner, and the band is noticeably for comfortable (softer and more stretchy). The Fenix series are just bulky heavy and for some reason the bands are uncomfortable. That means the 945 is more comfortable to sleep with, run with, and wear throughout the day

  So, who is the FR945 for? In short, the very serious athlete. If all you are interested in is daily activity tracking, sleep tracking and recording short runs or Zumba classes, get something in the sub $300 range. This watch is for the person who trains for rigorous events such as Spartan races, marathons, triathlons, ultras, serious cyclists, combat sports and so on. In other words, the person who, despite having a day job, thinks about their event for much of the day

 Or if you just want to splurge on a really nice sports watch, go for it. It’s no one’s business. But make no mistake about it. This watch is for serious, data-hungry athletes

 While I find it convenient to reject calls without pulling out my phone, the text and other iPhone alerts are just annoying. It would be more useful if I could customize text alerts to receive them only from a select group such as my wife and kids.  So, who is the FR945 for? In short, the very serious athlete. If all you are interested in is daily activity tracking, sleep tracking and recording short runs or Zumba classes, get something in the sub $300 range

The Garmin Coach?

  Getting addresses into it should be easy.  Instead I'm using a third party app to read notifications for turn by turn directions in Google on my phone.  Admittedly not a must have.

  It's easy to read.  It tracks a lot of good data too.  I love how well the notifications work.  What it does, it does well
