I'm currently taking the front wheel off and sliding the bike into my car with the seats down (on a tarp for the mud). I'm thinking about getting a rear bike carrier or a roof rack so I don't have to take the wheel off or fold the seats but what's the best option?

Hello, I'm pretty indecisive on which Thule bike carrier to use for my roof rack. Generally this carrier will mount carbon road bikes and aluminum hybrid bikes. I do not own a mountain bike or plan to in the foreseeable future. I'm leaning more toward to [UpRide](https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-rack/roof-bike-racks/thule-upride-_-599000) due to the no frame contact, and simplicity of attaching, but have noticed in Youtube videos that there seems to be some shaking/turbulence. Additionally, I do like [ProRide](https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-rack/roof-bike-racks/thule-proride-xt-_-598004) because it seems pretty sturdy, but really hate the frame contact. Finally, the [FastRide](https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-rack/roof-bike-racks/thule-fastride-_-564005) seems like the most sturdiest options for long term trips, but do not like to remove the wheel.

Deciding Between Thule Upride, FastRide, and ProRide (Roof Rack Carriers)

Dude are you kidding me?? I have to buy my locks separate from this ALREADY $300 bike rack?  Nice to know I could just go out for a ride and then come back to a missing rack since there is no way to really lock the thing down without creating a half-baked solution yourself - or buying their $40 key/locks that go with it.  Yeah it fits well. Yeah its pretty easy to install. Its also easy to steal right off a car

SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! Decent bike rack

Packaging was very damages when rack arrived.  No damage or missing parts to the bike rack.

The 35" maximum bar spacing and 26" minimum tire size means this rack is only good for big bikes on small cars. Seems to hold the bike securely.

Absurdly Short, Good for Big Bikes Only

 If you are a 5' 4" 110 pound woman with the same car and weight of bike you'd better either be a body builder or carry a small, sturdy step ladder. I should do the same because I need to open the door and step on the floor board to load this thing, which is a process that can hurt me as I've found out. Body size is probably way more important than strength, though both are necessary. Partly this is due to the fact that the main securing point is for the front wheel which is not secure or rigid until you cinch it down

I bought this car topper rack because I have a Yakima round bar system and many attachments and because I have a pickup truck already and didn't want to bother adding a receiver hitch to y Toyota Rav 4. If I had to do it over I would pony up for the receiver hitch and get a two or three place rear mounted hitch. The new receiver mounted back racks work way better I think.  That said this is a typically well designed and solidly built Yakima product Once you get the bike in the rack it's very solid and also comes with a medium security locking cable (though not all the necessary locking cores which you have to - somewhat annoyingly given the price of this thing - buy separately)

  Now for the bad part. with a medium heavy alloy (not carbon) 29" frame mountain bike, this think is a Bi@#h to load even on a modest sized SUV like my 2018 Rav 4. In fact I wrenched my back pretty good one time getting my bike down. For the record I am 5'-9", 172 pounds and consider myself to have pretty decent upper body strength

 It is quite easy for me lift my carbon fibre race bike up onto the roof mount, grabbing the bottom of the front fork and the seat stay. It would be much harder if the car was higher, or the bike was heavier. In my situation it is the perfect set up. If you have an SUV, or a heavy bike, it might not be right option
