Hello, I'm pretty indecisive on which Thule bike carrier to use for my roof rack. Generally this carrier will mount carbon road bikes and aluminum hybrid bikes. I do not own a mountain bike or plan to in the foreseeable future. I'm leaning more toward to [UpRide](https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-rack/roof-bike-racks/thule-upride-_-599000) due to the no frame contact, and simplicity of attaching, but have noticed in Youtube videos that there seems to be some shaking/turbulence. Additionally, I do like [ProRide](https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-rack/roof-bike-racks/thule-proride-xt-_-598004) because it seems pretty sturdy, but really hate the frame contact. Finally, the [FastRide](https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-rack/roof-bike-racks/thule-fastride-_-564005) seems like the most sturdiest options for long term trips, but do not like to remove the wheel.

Deciding Between Thule Upride, FastRide, and ProRide (Roof Rack Carriers)

 I then how to remove a piece of plastic on the rack to attach it and lower the bar because it was not engaging the mechanism to lower the bar.  In theory this should have been an effortless bike rack, but the design needs improvement.

I used this to transport my mountain bike from the lower 48 to Alaska and the bike stayed secure. Unfortunately I the knob to release the bar that supports the front tire did not seem to properly fit on the rack and was constantly falling off. I then how to remove a piece of plastic on the rack to attach it and lower the bar because it was not engaging the mechanism to lower the bar.  In theory this should have been an effortless bike rack, but the design needs improvement

 That said, who wants to load a fat tire bike on their roof? People think I'm crazy for loading a Yeti 29er on my SUV--a fattie would be another story all together!  In sum, all these racks serve their purpose, but the Sidearm is the best of the bunch in my opinion.

 I have some thoughts on how each of these racks compares to the others, and which I feel are best depending on application.  The UpRide is the newest model of roof rack from Thule, and is aimed at securing large, expensive, carbon-framed bikes. The goal is zero-contact with the frame, while securing a beast of a bike in a safe and secure way. The UpRide succeeds at accomplishing these goals by using two arms which "crisscross" the front tire, locking it into place using tension against the tire itself

I've owned a variety of Thule roof bike racks over the years, including a pair ofSidearms (currently installed on my other vehicle) and older and newer generationProrides as well as this UpRide which is installed atop my Subaru Ascent (with just enough room for an Alpine box on the other side of the SUV). I've used all of these systems extensively with a variety of bike types from mountain bikes to road bikes. I have some thoughts on how each of these racks compares to the others, and which I feel are best depending on application.  The UpRide is the newest model of roof rack from Thule, and is aimed at securing large, expensive, carbon-framed bikes

 The goal is zero-contact with the frame, while securing a beast of a bike in a safe and secure way. The UpRide succeeds at accomplishing these goals by using two arms which "crisscross" the front tire, locking it into place using tension against the tire itself. The fist arm snugs against the back of the tire, the second arm has a lever that applies incremental tension, firmly pressing the tire back and down into the rear arm. The engineering of this system works, and the bike feels very secure once snugged into place

UpRide vs Sidearm vs ProRide

 The rack isn't designed to be easily taken off and remounted and hence the 4 out of 5 (this is the only real complaint). There is a strap to secure the rear wheel, the center secures the frame and the front secures the front tire. I let out some air so that it could lock. Overall the rack works great, just think it should be able to come off easier and the directions should show two methods in the beginning as I followed the first ones that weren't the right ones for my cross bars
