  So, I settled on the Worksharp E2 based on reviews; it seemed like the best of the "cheap" sharpeners. At $38 from Amazon Warehouse Deals I think it's a good value for the money. I agree with others that the machine seems well engineered, especially for this price category. The results are okay -- not spectacular, but fine for day-to-day use

I transitioned to this product after many years of sharpening my kitchen knives using Japanese whetstones. The whetstone method produces fantastic results, unbeatable really, but is extremely time consuming if done properly (~30m a knife); also, and I speak here from experience, you _will_ experience an impressive finger injury at some point if you do not have proper technique or are not paying attention.  This flaws needs to be fixed. I don't leave many reviews but I felt like I had to, in the hope the company would revisit the design and retro fit with a new belt system. I have several work sharp products and this is the 1st disappointment.

Easy to use, but not effective sharpener

 I've had it for roughly 6 months and it's time to replace the discs. Where do you get those, you might ask? Well, not on Amazon. You have to go to their website where you get four discs for $8 plus shipping. For a $50 knife sharpener, this doesn't make any sense

 Paying for the service will at least keep your blades in good condition and avoid unintentional scratches.

 However, I don't know if I would feel comfortable using high quality/expensive knives with this sharpener. I have cheap cooking knives (don't judge!) so I had no qualms testing out this product on them, but in the process, I learned that it does scrape up the blade a good bit. I'm not certain if the amount it's removing is normal for this kind of product. I'm not all too concerned because it does in fact sharpen my knives and makes them a joy to slice and dice again

 That being said, I'm of the idea that I'll have to replace my knives in a 1-2 years after continuous use of this sharpener, and I'm personally okay with that. But if you have very expensive knives, I'd perhaps just look for a local professional knife sharpener in your area.  I would rather hand sharpen it by hand at this point. The honing part of this item is also low quality and can see degradation within the first couple uses. Would not buy again. If you do, buy a pack of rubber bands to keep replacing the o-ring belt which is dry and breaks easily

O-ring snaps after few uses

 It does a great job of bringing dull knives back to life. It's even great for scissors and serated blades.  Just a word of caution, pay attention to the size and starting position of your blade. My santoku handle gets in the way and I made the mistake of angling my knife the wrong way

Saved me some money

Great for kitchen knifes, mediocre for hunting knifes.

The obvious, observable facts: lightweight, compact and uncomplicated. I've used several different knife sharpeners and used to sharpen customers' knives in a kitchen store - this sharpener by Work Sharp is phenomenal. My only "criticism" is that extra grits (in a couple sizes) are not included and must be ordered separate. The timing aspect will take some getting used to, but I can see it as being helpful
