I didn't think that this access point would be able to do so much.

I just replaced ER-X + three AiMesh routers (in AP mode) with ER-X + two TP-Link EAP245 Access Points. It's 10x more capable than the AiMesh and 2x faster. Just in fairly stock setup too.

I recently went with two TP-Link EAP245 access points (controller on an ODROID) and am thrilled with it's performance. Sorry for $99 a piece. Some will boo hoo TP-Link, and I did before this too. But I'm tickled over here with it in my 2500 three story townhome.

I chose the EAP245 because it had all the features I needed (including some the nanoHD didn’t have such as direct device management and 8 SSIDs per radio band) but the EAP265 HD can handle more clients and the EAP620/660 (and the EAP680 coming soon) support WiFi 6 if that’s important to you. My experience so far (less than 24 hours) is very positive. Setup of the TP-Link was easier than UniFi, the dashboard is very simple (although arguably not as “pretty” as UniFi if that bothers you) and more importantly, it works!.

If you've browsed this sub at all, you'll have seen that the best thing you can do is use an ethernet cable instead of using a mesh system. My suggestion would be to get the TP-Link ER605 as a router and then two TP-Link EAP245 access points one for downstairs and one for upstairs. Then you can put the ISP combo box into full bridge mode and let the purpose-built equipment do what it was made to do. You'll need to run an ethernet cable from the router to the upstairs spot that the other access point will go, but the effort will be so worth it.

Go TP-LINK EAP245 access points (you don't need the "HD", that's High-Density not High-Def), they are $99 a piece, powered by POE (injector included), and managed by free software that can run on a raspberryPi or PC or their OC200 or the router mentioned in #2 (cloud optional, unlike with UniFi). These are 5x faster than my Asus AC1900 wired mesh.

Most likely bad wifi. Sorry, but there is a reason TP Link is cheap. It’s not great. I put in UniFi APs a few years ago and never looked back. My 3 ring and a few Wyze cameras outside are all 100% solid with 3 APs in my 2 story home.

I like TP Link the best. Overall they seem to be best value, running recently just over 10 bucks on amazon for a pack of three, are super reliable.

I got the TP-Link one from Amazon for 12 bucks. Works like a charm and I can stream all my 4K hdr remuxes that peak over 100mbps no problem
