Mullvad, Windscribe and TorGuard are good VPNs for torrenting. If as a college student you have a very limited budget, the 2$/month custom plan by Windscribe would probably be your cheapest option.

Digital Ocean won't allow me to access their API front end with python as as User Agent with Mullvad but Torguard works fine. Google's Cloud Platform SDK won't respond when I query it from the command line with either provider enabled. You may not really care about these restrictions but the Torguard software will warn you periodically if you've turned it off. That could save you an "oops" of having your ISP see unencrypted traffic from "sources".

I don't understand why Torguard got a 5 on protocols and a 1 on encryption, but they've been great for me. None of the servers I tried worked for Disney Plus while I was out of the states, but otherwise I haven't felt the need to go shopping for another VPN for years.
