For analog signals a Technics SL-1200 with Nagaoka MP-200 is fed into an Audio Research SP-9 preamp. The sound is non-fatiguing, has impressive soundstage and dynamics. These speakers were very difficult to find in the US as they were primarily marketed in Asia. The setup provides a very engaging sound that makes you tap your foot along to the music.

Recent pickup for $250 - whether you are just getting into audio or been down the rabbit hole for awhile I can’t recommend this line of Technics turntables enough!

Best kept secret of the audiophile world. Technics SL-1200 and it's cousins are excellent sounding decks.

If I’m looking to spend around 250 on a turntable what we be a good beginner option? I saw that people don’t really like the lp60x

Look up the model number and maker whenever you are browsing and don’t trust eBay for prices (they always want the most money). Quality tables are going to hold their value, such as the Technics SL-1200. You aren’t going to walk into a thrift store and buy it off the shelf for a $1 or less (and everyone on here that says they got one relatively recent for a ridiculously low price like that are *lying to you* for karma points).

Is this a decent turntable for beginners?

It's definitely better than the LP60X, but for that price you can get a table that absolutely will sound, and more importantly, function better. Lots of reports of anti-skate and tonearm issues through time. Similar to many other Technics SL1200 clones.

Looking for the most accurate hardware for ripping Vinyl

In this price range, the best you can get is Technics SL-1200 mk7. It's new and it has the lowest wow&flutter of any turntable in its price range. You can't fix wow and flutter in post processing, so it's important to start with hardware that has as little as possible.

BTW, I'm a Technics fan and will probably own an SL-1200G or SL1200GR when I retire in a few years. But for now, the $699 MSRP Pioneer is the value champion in DD tables IMHO. And its only my humble opinion....

I have a vintage Technics 1200 with a stanton trackmaster and it's started to act weird - it often stops playing 10 seconds after I press play, and sometimes speeds up and then stops. (otherwise it sounds pretty lovely.). A homey has a hookup for Project turntables and I can get a really good deal on a new one. So should I get the Technics serviced and splurge on a new stylus?

That i tested with the new Technics SL1200 among others. As for cartridge, great bang for your buck is ortofon red, especially if you like a bit more bass.
