Sony X80J

The X80J uses an IPS panel with a low contrast ratio. I don't think it would be much of an upgrade over your current TV. The X900H and X90J are similar in most ways except the X90J gets substantially brighter in HDR and can display 4K @ 120 Hz with minimal loss in image clarity.

Hey all,. I recently got a 55" U8G after returning a Sony x80j since I wasn't thrilled with the picture quality. The picture seems a bit washed, and watching the soccer games in 720p doesn't look great.

I wouldn't suggest the X80J for a bedroom TV because its an IPS panel. Stepping up to the X85J give you a VA panel with better contrast, a 120Hz refresh rate for improved motion handling and higher peak brightness for better HDR performance. For the $150 its a decent upgrade and probably well worth it. Personally I'd likely go with the [Hisense for $50 more then the X80J instead of either Sony.

I just replaced the latter (panel was failing) with a 65" Sony X80J. Like everyone on this blog, I spent a lot of time researching and reading comments here. My impressions of my OLED are as expected/feared.

I don't think there are any improvements on the X80j picture wise over the X80h. Personally I would take the cheaper Samsungs, even a "Frame" TV if its on special. All TVs at this price range are edge-lit so HDR performance is a bit of a farce, all you are after is a high contrast ratio. The Sony x800h/j are IPS panels so they will be washed out in comparison VA type panels used by Samsung.
