Sharpie S-Gel writes beautifully and doesn't streak unless you wipe it immediately after writing. It does bleed through just a tad but for what I do, it's worth it. And it comes in a metal version too!

I ordered this set of pens to take school notes. They are great to highlight or write headers but they leak to the other side of the page. Also one pen totally leaked while it was in my bag. I’ll probably try a different Sharpie set next time.

I love the Sharpie S-Gels. I've had the exact experience as this twitter user and I even bought the ones with a "metal" body. I tend not to spend much on pens, so these are perfect for me.

They wrote, they were bold and did not smear. They are not smooth like the pilot G-2. Definitely not a bad pen, but the G-2 10 is still king.

If I were you I would start with some simple, inexpensive metal pens. Try the Sarasa Grand, Energel Alloy, Sharpie S-Gel, Zebra G-750, Parker Jotter. You can probably get these cheapest on Amazon or Staples when they are on sale. Don't go crazy trying to get an expensive pen until you know if has all the features you want, especially starting out.
