In summary, i think this is a fantastic impact driver at a great price.

I picked up the P238 recently on Amazon for like $60. I ultimately picked that one because it has lights on the chuck instead of the base and there’s a magnet tray. The box said brushless so I think it works with the high performance batteries. I love it so far.

I’m currently looking to upgrade from the impact driver that comes with the 6 tool kit to something better and have decided to bite the bullet and try to get the best one ryobi makes. From what I’ve seen, there are three options: the old brushless impact P238, the compact hp(not interested in, overpriced IMO and I don’t really need the compact size), and the standard hp. I plan on buying these at DTO, and from what I’ve seen, HP prices are the same at DTO as they are at HD.I’m leaning towards the P238. I prefer the looks, appreciate the belt clip and magnetic tray, prefer the light placement, and from what I’ve seen on YouTube, there really isn’t that big of a difference to justify the HP.

After years of having 1-2 tools each of 4 different brands, I finally decided to ditch the others and go with Ryobi only, at least for 18v tools. I have:. -P517 (brushless reciprocating saw). -P238 (brushless impact driver).
