So with all that said, I hope y'all enjoyed this kind of revisit of the Riga P8.

We used a Feta 2 with the Planar 8 for our testing.

Rega Planar 8 with a Clearaudio Virtuoso V2 Ebony MM cartridge. Better yet would be get a Rega Aria V3 phono pre-amp and use the Rega Ania Pro MC cartridge. It will be $5500 but you will be amazed at the sound with that MA252.

Rega Planar P8 with Ania Pro MC, Rega Aria Mk3, Cambridge Audio CXA81 integrated amplifier, CXNv2 network media streamer, CXC CD transport, Klipsch RP-600M speakers, and SPL-120 subwoofer. Thinking about the next upgrade as been contacted by the shop I purchased my Rega turntable that they have Klipsch Forte IVs on sale....

I am a big Rega fan (currently own a Planar 8 table) and I agree you would be better off avoiding the Planar 1. Its not a bad table, but its overpriced for what it is. The stock cartridge is very bad and the table itself is a compromise to hit a price point. The best value Rega table would be the Planar 3 which is $1125 without a cartridge and wouldn't make much sense given your total planed budget.

Get a Rega Planar. They’ve been around forever, they’re proven, and there is a huge upgrade market for them. Also, if you want to upgrade to a better table, Rega will be easier to sell.

After nearly 10 years of service, this turntable still works great. It was a very good purchase.

Recently borrowed a Rega Planar 8 from a local shop to demo and see if I wanted to 'upgrade' from my dad's old Pioneer PL-540. I was considering giving the latter back to mom now that it is cleaned up and working great, hence looking at a new deck. I got the rega home, connected it to my iFi Zen Pre, grabbed all my my new/HQ discs that I know well.. and it sounded amazing.

The Rega planar 3is about the best value turntable you can buy these days. -list it looks great and is upgradable in many ways.
