 Set up was a breeze, I added my address, and wifi password and email and walked away from it. I downloaded the app and set up the rest of the system from my phone on the couch. Too Easy! The zone are customizable you can pick what it is your watering, there are several choices like lawn, trees and bushes, flowers. I set up the zones made a program and away I went

 I am undeterred by obstacles or failures. After all, it was one of my heroes, Winston Churchill who said, "Never, ever, ever, ever give up!" Right on Winnie ol' boy! So naturally I ordered myself the RainMachine Touch HD-12 WiFi Irrigation System and began installing it all by my brilliant self. My wife began pacing. I knew it wouldn't be long before one of my friends "just happened" to be passing by our house and decided to drop in for a spot of tea

Easy as pie... even for a home repair moron like me!

 I would watch your soil wetness for the first few runs as I now have soggy areas because it didn't reduce the water duty as low as it should have. So it needs to be babied for the initial setup period.  $259 is a lot of money. I kinda wish I could have bought the Rachio Iro Gen2 to compare - and I still might! Other than that I really like it

 If you want direct local access (and you do, don't you?) then you can't just browse to the unit. There are two ports depending on http or https, and neither are default. To browse in http then use http:// :18080. For https use https:// :8080

  I live in Phoenix and I question a little about the setup suggestion of setting the zone runtime to be for a typical summer day. When I do that, it reduces the runtime as expected for spring time; however, it still seems to be too much water. Looks impressive, software is flaky,

 It will fail to water due to a very light rainfall a day or two earlier. We will then manually water the lawn. It appears that it will then see this water and erroneously conclude that the ground is wet enough the next couple of days and continue to fail to water as scheduled. This requires us to continue to manually water the lawn, and again it sees this water and fails to water as scheduled

 I am hoping to ultimately find the spot where it will still turn off if it is actually raining a significant amount, but resume watering the next day scheduled.

  The app is great, but could use some improvements. I would like to be able to temporarily pause the system, such as when it is running when I'm planning to take a shower, and then resume from the same spot. Currently it is necessary to stop the system, remember where you were, and then manually run the remaining stations. At least this can be done remotely

Works Great For Remote Control, But Saves Water By Killing The Lawn

  A lot of the features i'm not happy with are presented pretty well and dummy proof on most generic non-smart timers. The only feature I really liked about the RainMachine was being able to, on the rare occasion, water my lawn remotely using my phone or a web browser.  I'll consider buying into it or another brand once these units go through a few rounds of revisions based on market feedback.

Smart/Connected Home Enthusiast: Not thrilled

 Not an easy customer experience.  Pros Easy install Easy setup Great interface 12 zones Automatically saves water based on NOAA rainfall forecast Lots of features to customize the sprinkler settings  Cons Mobile app does not work reliably Some software bugs to resolve Poorly designed connectors for water valve wiring No cloud hosted app, so you need networking skills to access this system while away from home  This seems like one of the most promising systems out there, but it still has a Beta feel to it as though its just not finished yet. I really look forward to RainMachine's system after a few more S/W upgrades.

Out of the box, this product is really well thought out. Installation is truly simple, it just has a 1 page card that shows you what to do. I was able to replace my RainBird in 15 minutes. Setup was very simple, you simply switch on and go through the setup wizard, select your wifi info enter your address and it is all connected to NOAA

Great product, a few rough edges

 You can only select "every 14 days", not every other Thursday. So after setting the schedule, you have to wait until the Wed before the Thursday that you can start watering, and after Wed morning has passed you can start the first program set to run Thursday morning. Then, you have to wait until late Wednesday night(or even past midnight) to start the second program. Because again, you can only set to run "every 14 days", and it will start the cycle the next available time slot, regardless of the day

Less than impressed with scheduling.
