Thinking about the Kobo Libra 2 for my father but worried about the space

PocketBook Era is an excellent choice and it has 64 GB of storage. It doesn't have an sd card but it's still bigger then the Libra and it allows you to buy books not only from Kobo but from most ebook stores and you can sideload audiobooks as well. You can even plug-in wired headphones, so you don't have to deal with wireless.

Love it. Everything I hoped it would be. Screen is similar to the Touch HD3 except bigger. For those who say font is not bright enough, simply use a different font. The script is perfect. Kobo Libra 2 opinions?

For Amazon and B&N books, you will have to remove the DRM as they use their own proprietary ones that are not compatible with any other e-readers. As an alternative, I can recommend the PocketBook Era. It has everything the Kobo does and more. It's built noticeably better, buttons are nice and tactile, supports all ebook formats (including Amazon books without DRM), text to speech, has speakers used for audiobooks and TTS (but you can still connect your wireless or wired headphones), has the exact same screen as the Libra 2 (Carta 1200), really nice warm light that could turn deep amber when maxed out but with an antireflective coating for better legibility outdoors.

Kobo or Kindle? In need of present advice!

Also, make sure the e-reader you get is light and easy to handle (like the Libra 2). I've bought some more premium e-readers like the PocketBook Era (a mix between Kindle Oasis and Libra 2) which has metal frame but some older people said they can't use it because it's heavier and makes their wrists hurt after a while (they all had arthritis, though).

Ebook devices for beginners

I have the PocketBook Era, which is great for audiobooks and general reading but not for PDFs, and the InkPad 3 which is great for general reading, audiobooks, comics/manga and to a certain extent PDFs although the screen is at the edge of being a bit too small. The battery can last up to a month or a bit more.

best for my use case?

PocketBook Era, InkPad 3 or Touch HD 3. Can read any ebook format including non-DRM Amazon books, images, PDFs, mp3, audiobooks. You can buy books from Kobo, Google Play, Booktopia, pretty much any place where there are either Adobe DRM books or books without DRM. Doesn't require any special software to operate.

Physical buttons and Libby support?

It's also a slightly older device, a new version may or may not be released soon. The Pocketbook Era has buttons and a premium feel - I don't know if the sides are metal or not. It does NOT have Libby/Overdrive built in. I thought I would mention it as it has buttons and people have said it feels nice in the hand.

After that, you are not required to use any of the online/cloud features of the device. As an alternative, I can recommend the PocketBook Era. No registration required. It can do all the things the Libra can and more.

Kindle oasis alternative

First e-reader: Kobo, Kindle or Pocketbook?

If you are simply wanting to read on it, then it does exactly what it's supposed to. The only time it slows down a bit is if you have "sync" checked and you are uploading new books, notes, etc. I can't wait to get the new Pocketbook Era. That will definitely be my next device.
