Pimax 12k

Pimax FOV on 'normal' setting you still see the blackness of the mask edge but its much farther off on the sides. Index rides somewhere in between. If you were to buy an index which it's a good system for the money, you will be setup for cheaper upgrading later and full body tracking if you wanted to go that route too. With index controllers and index tracking you can buy another 'steamVR" system just buying the HMD alone like vive pro2, Pimax 12K or Varjo Aero.

Pimax Crystal\12k at ~$2000 this Winter. AppleVR at >$1500 early next year. Quest 3 at holiday for next year. The Quest 2 will last you and be a good deal until Holiday of next year when the Quest 3 will be released.

Only get a Pimax headset if you are interested in the Pimax 12k. Right now if you buy one of their headsets you can basically resell to them at full price when the 12k releases, so you get the headsets full price deducted from the 12k. Otherwise I'd go with a HP Reverb G2 rev2. It has roughly the same FOV as Index, same audio, but way better resolution and clarity compared to both.

Mind blown. Loving it, obsessed, so much so that I'm thinking about upgrading but the upgrades are $1,800-$2,400+. There is the pimax 8k ($1,300+), I'm looking at the pimax 12k coming out Q4 of this year ($2,400, standalone + PCVR.

Imo, look up pimax crystal and pimax 12k. Those are going to be (as far as it is advertised) probably the best headsets on the market, maybe? If you want to go for something in the meantime the pimax 8k has a trade in for one of the new ones or you can get the HP reverb g2 on sale for $350 - 400 for a very good but also inexpensive intermediary in the meantime. Steamvrfest is this upcoming week I think and might be some new announcements.

even though pimax 12k is packed with feature the lens it uses makes it a really chunky headset like other pimax hmd and I assume the god rays and glare won't be totally solved with a hybrid of two rather old lens designs. Not to mention pimax's track record of underdelivering. If you have the money is better to buy the aero which is an existing industrial level headset with some parts removed so at least it's a testified design. pimax's promise may sounds great but IMO by the time it come out there would be better hmd announced.

I just don't love it and the lens issues can cause problems for me at times. I really wish someone would just make an all around great headset but, so far, no one has officially done it. The Pimax 12K coming next year sounds great but, my experience with Pimax has not been great and they've always promised the moon and under-delivered. The Varjo Aero is interesting for clarity but, it has no microphone and no speakers and costs $2000... For that price, it should have both and great versions of both.

After the pimax 12ks announcement, I'd say pimax is a risky idea, I say that because IF, AND ONLY IF, the pimax 12k I'd as good as pimax is making it seem then buying a pimax headset now isn't a bad idea, as pimax is offering trade ins on any old pimax headset for full value for the pimax 12k. If you want my honest recommendation, I'd say that you should go for a quest 2 for now, because within the next year we will probably see alot, and I mean alot, of really good VR headsets announced, and dropping a fuck ton of money now may end up with you regretting your purchase. But it all depends on how much faith you put in Pimax, if you belive they can deliver on the high claims of the pimax 12k then go for a pimax 8kx for now since they are offering the trade in on the 12k.

So you're buying based on what you're going to do for the headset after this next one. If you're leaning towards wireless, being able to play anywhere in your house, etc, and looking at future headsets like Lynx R1, Pico Neo 3, Meta Cambria / Quest 3, Pimax 12k, Arpara AIO, etc, then you can probably spend less and get the Reverb G2 with its nicer display. If you're leaning towards having a fixed VR play space, with cable pulley, base stations, etc, and have an interest in going for full body tracking, then getting the Index will get you into the SteamVR ecosystem, so later on you can just buy the headset for stuff like Varjo Aero, Pimax 8kx, Arpara regular, etc.
