Pilot MR

It turns out the pen writes quite smoothly with this ink and I don't have to apply pressure. Fortunately, my Pilot MR works well with Pelikan 4001 cartridges, so I can still use them.

This is a nice inexpensive pen, it feels crunchy when I write with it. I purchased 3 fountain pens when I bought this one. My favorite is the Wordsworth & Black Fountain Pen Set Medium Nib-Journaling and Calligraphy.

Though people usually use either tape or heat-shrink tube on the base/lip of the cap as a preventative measure to avoid the cap from cracking if you're the type of person to post it, because once that cap cracks, it's hard to keep on due to the spring-loaded inner cap that seals it. Both can take either cartridges or converter (for bottled ink), using bottled ink by either using a converter, or blunt syringe re-filling the cartridges is going to be the much more economical route (a lot more ink in a bottle for cheaper per milliliter compared to cartridges). Platinum cartridges are a tiny bit larger in capacity to Pilot (0.9ml vs 1.1ml), the converters are about the same on both for what they can both use (between 0.5ml to 0.6ml). The MR or Metropolitan feels a little more durable and is somewhat more comfortable to write with on the grip, but it is slightly heavier.

When writing the weight of the pen feels good for a quick thought, but not a page full of notes. Ink tends to dry up and need to wait a few seconds for the flow to catch up.

And some excellent ones. That will make the Pilot MR look expensive. I'll kick it off with a few. But there are lots to find.

Funny, this pen claims to be a Medium nib, but it has a line that's half that of the Lamy Safari Extra-Fine. Looks classy, feels good in the hand, and the writing is super smooth. So far, so good. I'm not so fond of the converter that comes with the Metropolitan. It's not as responsive as the Con-50...

Pilot MR/Metropolitans are not that good. It was my starter pen. I hated it, put it in a drawer, and left the country. Give me a Prera or Explorer any day over a Metro.

I was very disappointed after reading so many positive reviews for this fountain pen. My pen was not assembled properly. When I tried to take the cap off, the barrel of the pen became unglued and flew off! Maybe the seller was shipping bad stock, or maybe these cheap pens are cheap for a reason. Ins...

So after falling for the hype about the Pilot MR (Metropolitan), I decided to get one, and I believed it would be a better writer than my Lamy pens (Safari, Al-Star and Nexx, all in medium), and it is not even close to how they perform. And, yes, I know Japanese nibs are finer. Something odd about the pen I realised was that the nib says <M>, but a white sticker on the cap says <F>, but 'MED' (I assume that means medium).

I dropped my Mont Blanc on its head - & damaged the nib. on a $400 pen. Since I no longer need to write as copiously as i did I decided to see what else could be used .
