I wanted to love this masher, but alas, cannot. In fact, I am regretting having thrown my old conventional masher away. It's great as far as comfort, ergonomics, sturdiness, and quality of build and materials. It just wouldn't mash my refried beans to anything approaching smoothness

 I am surmising that the oblong slots are too big. That's a pity as it would otherwise be quite wonderful. Also, the masher I received has 11 rows of slots (count them, go ahead and count them!) while the "OXO Good Grips Smooth Potato Masher" currently displayed on Amazon and shown as the one I purchased, has only 8. The dimensions given do not correspond either

Monster mash?

The first time I used this the two metal arms buckled sideways, permanently deforming the metal so that that it can no longer withstand significant forces. I am not some super strong person, just a person who likes to be able to get potatoes mashed in a timely fashion. Next time I buy a potato masher it will be a more traditional design. Or I will just use a wooden block or frankly any food safe object

Not suited for intensive mashing operations.

This was just ok. The holes make it so the final result is not creamy and smooth. You are still left with little clumps of potato, however it did its job well. For those saying the handle bent, I assume their potatoes weren't cooked well, cause this is quite sturdy and didn't bend at all on me while making 10lbs of potatoes

Wrong Style For Me

This is an excellent masher. If you're doing skin on potatoes it clogs up slightly - but still made short work of a few batches of mashed potatoes (with and without skin) & mashing up sweet potatoes for another dish.  The one flaw of the design? It's short handle. However, it's not a deal breaker

 My family loves mashed potatoes and when I make them I make a lot. This was definitely put through some trials for Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to using it for Christmas, and for meals in between.

  There's only one masher I've used that I liked as much as this one - but it was literally twice the price (it's a Cuisinart model). However, I would still choose this one over that other model because there was no hand fatigue with the Oxo. My family loves mashed potatoes and when I make them I make a lot. One minor flaw

 I frequently cook for a crowd and the next time I make potatoes for more than 6 or 8 people I think I will have to divide the potatoes to keep from burning my knuckles. On the other hand it's nice and sturdy and a bit easier to clean than my previous masher.

I’ve outfitted my entire kitchen in OXO gear and this is the first time I can remember being a little disappointed in something. It looks great, but honestly the arms connecting the handle and masher are a little thin, making them buckle easily from one side or the other. It’s easy enough to move back, but it’s not the quality I’ve come to expect from OXO.

Bent with first use

This is a fantastic kitchen tool for mashing vegetables. While we primarily use it to make mash potatoes we also use this to help mash avocados when making guacamole an the masher works great and is very comfortable to use for long periods of time which really helps when making a lot of mashed potatoes.
