 So the rock plate, in my opinion, pretty much gets in the way of that and diminishes a whole lot of that ground feel that again, most of us are after if we're looking for a barefoot shoe. this sole also has a decent amount of arch support, which if that's something you're looking for. I don't really know why you're looking for minimal issues, but it was fairly comfortable as far as arch support goes. It, uh, cradled that arch pretty nicely

 Now the other thing that I dislike about this and honestly, this is probably my least favorite thing about this entire shoe is it has a good amount of toe springs, so you can see it doesn't sit flat, it curves up, and especially under the ball of the foot, you see it come up. and that's something that you see in most traditional running shoes. The reason for that is when they're stiff, it allows you to rock forward if you're doing a heel strike and actually propel yourself, whereas if it was flat and unstable, then you just hit and bottom out because your foot isn't allowed to do the bending and torquing than it's supposed to do. It's still very breathable

 But personally, I much prefer going straight to a shoe like the Teraflex, which will actually allow you to have those natural mechanics and just back off on your mileage to learn your proper gait instead of going from traditional shoe to let's call it a semi-traditional shoe to a minimalist shoe because that's three times you're having to relearn your gait or I guess two times relearning. Um, and this isn't gonna lend itself to actually learning that natural gait if that's what you're after. If that's not what you're after, if you just want a lighter weight trail shoe and you're not interested in the barefoot or minimalist thing, go for these shoes. They're great

 This shoe just doesn't make a lot of sense to me because again, it's marketed as barefoot. but they're continuing to add more and more support. More and more structure, more and more protection which destroys the purpose of this shoe. Thanks so much for watching this video

Big fan of the Merrell trail glove series if you want true ground feel and no cushioning. They really strengthen your ankles and toughen your feet up.

I'm looking forward to starting running in September (cannot earlier due to logistics, not lack of will). In the past, I've run short distances (5K) until late last year and I've been hiking up to 20K. Since I will mostly be on trails and my Altras Lone Peak 5 are officially done, I need a new pair of shoes. 

I mostly walk around barefoot or have barefoot shoes, so I'd like to go in that direction with trail running shoes too. 

Do you have any recommendations, especially for wider feet, EU size 39/US 8?

Barefoot Trail Running Shoes?

 it doesn't look too much like a hefty, obnoxious hiking boot nor an alien looking barefoot running shoe. I mean, this is something you could wear around town just as easily as on the trail. Oh, for sure agreed. and the color options are rad, but I also loved the roomy toe box

 make a great cycling shoe, you name it. They're right in the middle ground between a true barefoot shoe and something with a bit more support but not cushion. They might take some getting used to, but in my opinion, barefoot style shoes are totally worth it. Maybe, but I still like some squoosh though these are growing on me as always

 And as you may have guessed by the number six, this is not Merrell's first trail glove shoe, it's the sixth. But full disclosure, if you're already familiar with Merrell's trail glove family, the six is different from the previous generations, so don't expect the same fit and feel as your old ones. Details aside, let's get to what you really want to know what we thought After wearing them for a while, we took them hiking on long walks, even trail running to get a good feel for them and what they were best for. And yes, we approached them from very different positions

 It was plenty spacious without looking awkwardly wide like some natural fit shoes sometimes can, and I liked how they fit snug around the midfoot. They never felt like they were slipping or rubbing or moving at all. I was less thrilled with how hard they were to get on though. That said, while I probably won't do a lot of hiking in it, I don't hate it for trail running

A Barefoot Shoe With A Twist. Merrell Trail Glove 6 Review

I’m milking my Merrell Trail Glove 4 pair for all they’re worth. I haven’t seen kind words about the recent versions of the shoe and I’m hesitant to switch to another brand. I have a few options lined up from suggestions here on Reddit though.

I’ve stuck with the same shoe for 4 years now. I sometimes wonder if I am foolish and should branch out, but continue to buy my favorite Asics shoe model. I personally really, really like the Asics gel nimbus. I ran a half in gel nimbus 19’s and again in gel nimbus 21’s, both times running faster than I planned. I figure if I keep running faster than expected, why change? Thoughts?

How loyal are you to your favorite running shoe model and why?

 The rubber sole offers phenomenal grip with the ground and again, I think the biggest selling point for me is that it offers a rock plate in the bottom. I think that's a very good feature to have on a minimalist shoot because if you are going to go hiking or going out for a run, sometimes you just never know. You might step on something sharp and it might puncture straight through. And I know that this one I've tested it, it does fairly well in protecting you from anything sharp

 It has also released a new model, which yes, I will cover in another video. The Trail Glove 6 offers an eco-friendly shoe, meaning that most materials used are recycled and truthfully, I'm not sure what exactly that means, but my guess is that it's coming from recycled rubber, plastics, and shoes that didn't make the cut. Some notable features for these shoes are the external rear sling to lock in the heel, the latest Barefoot Two construction, a rock plate for protection in the soles, and a midsole that offers arch support and arch support that nobody asked for. All right, let me slow my roll before we dive into the pros of cons

 The arch support is something I can get used to as long as I'm not wearing it for prolonged amount of time Again, as I said before, the arch support does get milder. I can understand and relate to why people wouldn't want any arch support in general because this is considered a barefoot shoe. But having some arch support for the type of activities that I do can be improved to be very beneficial. I think if you allow this shoe to break in with time, it'll suit your needs very well

 To me it can go well in fitness or casual scene. The way this shoe fits on my feet is superb. No issues with the toes bumping on the tip, heels stay well in place, and when moving laterally, the whole shoe stays well in place as well. By the way, my shoe size is usually 10 to 10 and a half

I'm just getting back into running after several years, and many more several pounds. I'm getting a Merrell gift card for Father's Day and I'd like to have some idea of what to look for when I go to the outlet store. I'll mainly be running on hard packed Michigan trails if that helps.

A good pair of Merrell shoes for a beginner

Merrell trail glove 6 is a better shoe than the trail glove 4. Give it a try. I also liked the 4 but hated the 5.

I’m having a very difficult time finding my ideal shoe. I wouldn’t call myself a runner, per se, however I have 1000s of trail miles as an avid backpacker, almost entirely in Merrell Trail Gloves and Vapor Gloves on rocky SW trails.  I stopped wearing trail gloves after the fourth version because they changed it too far from my liking, and I just ran out of my stock. 

I have since switched to my vapor gloves exclusively, which make my feet sore long before I’m ready to be done on the trail.  I have been running lately in preparation for a 10 mile race in support of my partner…. The front of my heels feel like they’ve been hit with a hammer, particularly after running a technical downhill and feeling that occasional heel strike.

Because of this, today I went to a running store and walked out with Altra Lone Peaks.  I was skeptical of the rock plate and 25 mm stack, but they assured me they are considered minimalist for running shoes.  Unfortunately, I just went for a quick run and they don’t work for me. It feels like my feet have fallen asleep. I have zero ground feel, I’m not confident in my foot placement.  My feet feel like they are sloshing around in rain boots and I rolled my ankle more than once in 2
miles.  Could I get used to them? Probably, but I prefer my Trail Glove 4.  I feel defeated.

<p>Update:  I just ordered Xero Mesas, which seems to be the only option with ~10mm stack height, no arch support, zero drop, and no rock plate.  Thanks for the help.</p>

Do minimalist shoes still exist?

If you like more minimalist shoes the Merrell Trail Glove are nice. I have worn them hiking in the Rocky Mountains as well as wearing around town. They’re fairly basic style wise, and very light to pack.

 I’ll (30F) be traveling to Central and South America early next year. I’ll be backpacking with a 40 L backpack for several months (from February to June), so the space is quite limited. I’m thinking of taking 2 pieces of footwear, my Birkenstocks EVAs, and an everyday walking shoe that could be used for some light hiking. Ideally, this would have a fairly simple design/color combo since I’d like it to match the rest of my wardrobe.

I’m in the UK, so access to American brands is somewhat limited. I came across the black Saloman Alphacross, but I have no idea what they may be like just for walking. 

I’d love to hear any recommendations. I’ve also heard of people renting hiking gear on the ground, or just using regular trainers for hikes (E.g. Acatenango, Macchu Picchu, etc) so maybe I’m overthinking this, so I’d appreciate any input from someone who has done something similar.

Recommendations for an everyday walking shoe that can function as a hiking shoe?

I usually run in my xero z trail sandals or my xero hfs shoes. Just curious if anyone here runs in minimalist shoes on the trail and what do you use? As you see, I only have experience with xero brand but am curious to try some other companies out.
