It's definitely a personal thing I plan on using to jam out with at home. It's one of those pedals that make you want to simply play more. If you find one at a local store, I high recommend trying it out.

Klon Centaur style pedals have an inherent clean blend in the gain control. As the gain is increased, the clean is decreased and vice versa. You can find Klon clones for dirt cheap all over the place.

I'm not sure if your amp has channel switching; if it doesn't, then a boost pedal or overdrive like the tube screamer, SD-1, and Klon Centaur would be like adding a second higher gain channel when you hit the front of your amp. Since you mentioned that you like metal, maybe a simple digital delay would be worth looking into for solo/clean tones (Used Boss DD3s are everywhere and not too expensive). You could put this in your amp's effects loop. There's also modulation.

Aside from the high pitched whine. I started dialing things in and the signal quit entirely, aside from the whine. I didn't hear a pop that would have led me to believe that some magic smoke escaped. I haven't had a chance to open it up to check things out yet.
