Jinhao 159 Fountain Pen Review — A Better Desk
The Jinhao 159 is certainly worth the $3.00-$5.00 Amazon price tag, and it's even a great value for $10-$15, if you go through official channels like Goulet Pens

What are your unpopular fountain pen opinions?
Great quality also but I might have been lucky. Considering the price the Jinhao 159 might be the best buy out there.

Sometimes rough at the edges, but these pens can be absolute gems.
A quick note on Jinhao fountain pens (specifically 159's, X450's and X750's) I have quite a few Jinhao pens. Quality control, especially on the nibs, is not as good as it could be. You have about a 70-75% chance of getting a pen that is pretty damn good right out of the box. But the rest of the time...

Early thoughts on the Jinhao 159 fountain pen.
But you might just find the Jinhao 159 meets some needs without investing in a 149 at all 🙂.

The Jinhao 159 is one big boy that does the job.
The Jinhao 159 is a fine pen. I call mine Big Black. It puts ink to paper smoothly and with authority. Other than the name on it, there is nothing about it to identify it as an inexpensive writing utensil. Due to its size and weight, it might not be the best choice for someone with smaller or frail ...

Jinhao 159 Fountain Pen Review
With a mediocre build quality and a less-than-inspiring nib, the Jinhao 159 isn’t in the same league as other pens in the same price range. Pilot has a whole pile of pens in the $8 to $20 range that are more dependable and better built. The Nutshell: Overall Score: 17/25

Looking for a chunky pen.
* Cheap option: Jinhao 159. It's meant to be "inspired by" the Montblanc 149, except it's made of metal, which adds heft to the already chunky size. I'm not the biggest fan of cheap pens, but I really enjoy my 159. Plus it's got some dings and scratches and I don't care because it only cost me about $15.

Jinhao X159 Black Acrylic Fountain Pen Review - a large nib!
So overall, kudos. Jinhao did a good job creating a pen that I think many people can like.

Large heavy fountain pen, with "standard" not "broad" Jinhao nib.
Attractive, well finished enamel or lacquer finished brass bodied pen, with steel (not necessarily stainless) #6 standard width nib. The 159 is a very heavy (49.7 grams), large, threaded cap pen. Course pitch threads means 3/4 of a turn opens or closes the pen. A Montblanc knockoff in the most gener...

Jinhao 159 A Decent Pen
I find the pen to be average. It is a bit top heavy with cap posted. Ink uptake was slow but after a few hours it was fine and several days later wrote on first stroke. Though I consider it an average pen when you consider the very cheap cost it's not bad.
