 Why couldn't the exterior be left as naturally dressed stone and not coated with something? Thai Homemade Granite Mortar and Pestle

 I love this size. It is large enough to do a big batch of pesto or blend butter or smash potatoes efficiently. However it's still small enough that I can grind a teaspoon of spices without feeling they get lost in a giant cavern. The size of this item is just large enough so I can store it on the back edge of my counter and it doesn't impinge on my work space

 The 3+ cup size is one inch larger in diameter--8 inches--which is a bit bigger than I want on my countertop permanently; the 1.5 cup size seems too small to me..

 It was so heavy I think it was a replacement battery I'd ordered for a UPS. After I realized that my mortar and pestle hadn't shown up, I remembered the "UPS battery" box, opened it and found the beast. (then I had to figure out what happened to my missing UPS battery)  Mine was 7 3/8" across the top, 8 3/8" if you measure across the small handles. It stands 5 1/4" tall at the highest point of the slightly irregular shape

 I toasted them beforehand. Yet after all that, pounding in the mortar still produced an oil sheen in the bottom. When everyone says that a food processor cant even compete, this is what they are talking about. You cannot produce this oil by a fast chopping method

 I bought straight from Importfood due to ordering a 2+ cup here on Amazon(not from Importfoods but through them, like middle/middle-man) and that didn't arrive even now after weeks. I got the big one and a notice that the smaller unit just shipped same day pretty much, guess that doesn't even bother me with the quality of the item. This means time savings to you (as long as the pestle arc is matched to the mortar arc in the main usage area)

 I wanted a quality product I could use for a variety of cooking projects--guacamole, pesto, spice grinding, etc... My 1 1/2 cup marble mortar is a bit small for guacamole

  However, a few photos later of the defect Jerry at Import Foods promptly responded, as I received an email on 12/8 and a voice mail. I'm sorry I missed his call. He was very gracious and is sending out a replacement mortar due to the second quality mortar originally shipped slipping through quality control, an unusual circumstance he told me.  I really appreciate Jerry's prompt attention to this matter after I was able to illustrate the defects with photos
