First gun!!! Got it at a pawnshop.

I’m about to go buy a pistol, now this isn’t going to be for concealed carry, home defense, or any particular purpose. I want something that will stand the test of time in the event of societal collapse. 

My line of thinking is a 45 long colt single action revolver. Specifically a Uberti Cattleman revolver. It’s simple with few moving parts so less potential to jam/break etc. 

I want a back up side arm that will last a long time basically. Any other suggestions? My plan is to eventually get a lever action rifle chambered in the same caliber. For that reason, calibers are restricted to .357/.38, .44 mag, or .45 long colt.

<p>Update: ok I caved and bought a Uberti 1973 Cattleman revolver in .45 long colt, I get it may not be the most practical, but this also isn’t my only gun. I’ve wanted one of these for over a decade and finally got it!</p>

I have also heard that it is just worth going for the Glock 19 since they are so reliable. Does anyone know if the Glock 19 gen 4 got cheaper after the gen 5 came out? What is everyone’s thoughts?

After much consideration, this is my list of essential firearms for survival or SHTF. It’s easy to become a collector and get carried away, but if you could have only have 5 firearms for you and your family, this is what I’d keep on hand… and as a bonus, the order in which I’d acquire them. No more, no less. 

Yes, there’s arguably something newer and flashier in each category, but much of my opinion is based the longevity of each of these gun’s production run, aftermarket support, maintenance requirements, reliability, ammo availability, and so on. 

What on your list or what would you change? 

- Ruger 10/22 or Marlin Model 60 (.22LR)
- Mossberg 500 (12 gauge)
- Glock 19 (9mm)
- Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle or quality AR (5.56/.223)

So I'm looking for a fist handgun. I'm looking for something to concealed carry when im old enough but mostly just use as a home defense gun for now. Im looking at the glock 19 gen 3. I like how simple it is and how inexpensive the mags are. Ive also been looking at the cz p10c which I like but 40 bucks per mag kinda kills it for me.  Any other options anyone would recommend to look at? Budget is preferably under 600 usd for the firearm. Thanks :)
