But if you're looking for a desktop audio solution and are aware of some of the unique functionality quirks, I can easily recommend this at $150.

I was torn between FiiO K5 Pro and iFi Zen DAC but the option of having a balanced connection and the fact that the improved Zen DAC V2 was just released made me choose the latter. I then waited another week for the Yongsheng balanced cable to arrive. So far, I’m really impressed. Sound stage is a night and day difference, and the midrange is just fabulous.

In the end Nothing much left to add here, the K5 Pro ESS is a slightly enhanced version of a classic FiiO hit, worthy every last penny of the asking price. With top notch sound performance and equally good build quality it is one of the best entry level "all-in-one" DAC/amps you money can buy, as long as you don't care about MQA and wireless connectivity. So the package it's quite underwhelming, it's just a cardboard box with the headphones, cable and the 6.3mm adapter that's already attached. My 599 have much better packaging with foam and they also came with 2 cables, a short one with a 3.5 mm connector and a long one with a 6.3mm connector and also an adapter from 6.3mm to 3.5mm. So i was expecting a little better packaging for the 600s considering they're double the price of 599s.

Despite what the description says I received the ESS version of the K5 Pro. Despite the ESS version having better paper specs I wanted the AKM based K5 Pro so I returned it. I doubt they have any of the AKM based K5 Pros left so you will also revive the ESS based one. Keep that in mind.

The high-frequencies are produced by the Air Motion Transmitter (AMT) and are noticeable clearer than usual soft dome tweeters. Especially the very highs (the sizzle) sound precise. I control my pair with a FiiO K5 Pro, in a near-/ or mid-field setup, the T5Vs can play loud, but not only loud, they stay clean of distortion even at high levels. Overall theses sound much better than I expect at their price point, they do not sound budget at all!.
