gaming headphones under 200 usd.

Sennheiser hd599 work well. I’ve seen them for $99 before. U can use the extra money to get a fiio k3 dac/amp ($99). Bass boost on the dac makes foot steps clearer.

I knew I would like this, but damn!

Thry all get passed either a fiio k3 or an fx audio dac-x6 (it was a I could afford at the time). These akgs are my favorite so far, and I can't really see upgrading unless it's to some crazy cans like some audeze lcd-2 or something.

Positional sound queues were spot on, I was able to prefire corners confidently. All in all, it sounds good. I don't have any other experience in this price bracket, so I just touched on the basics. Equipment used: Quedelix 5k, Fiio K3, Schiit Magni/Modi 3.

If around the same price cheaper, I would take the K5 Pro over the ifi Zen.

The DT770 80 ohm are not very difficult to drive. Fiio K3 will work great with them.

Does anybody use DAC's for their audio while gaming?

with gaming I've used a FiiO K3, Holo May KTE, and Chord TT2

all work great for gaming, as would pretty much any DAC that produces sound and doesn't have much latency

Buy used headphones, they are as good as new ones but cheaper

How to get minimal leakage while still hearing your surroundings?

Unless you blast them at full volume leakage shouldnt be a concern, my HD600s on 10% of max volume with a balanced cable on high gain on a Fiio K3 is barely audible from half an armsreach away, but even thats a bit too loud for normal listening imo, normal would be 6% (-43db), if there is a bit of ambient noise like keyboard typing, an AC or fan running or something similar, your collegues shouldnt be able to hear something, i just recommend listening on a very quiet level anyways, your ears will thank you in the long run.

DAC for my desktop

FX Audio X6 MKII is great as a DAC if you are not going to use AMP part of it don't go spending any more money than that one, if you need AMP/DAC combo go with Fiio K3, it's AMP part is much much much better done
