I love that vintage warm tone and feel that flatwounds give, but in a live setting I play mostly rock, punk and worship, so i also need that aggressive driven tone that roundwounds excel in. Thoughts?

Flatwounds VS Roundwounds on PBass

Ordered these strings about two weeks ago. Love the sound they make but they did not put on the info page that they are for short scale basses. I have a schecter 5 string and the b string was almost a half an inch too short. I can still play with it but there is quite a bit of fret buzz

For the first time of my 10+ years of playing bass I tried flatwounds and I'm not going back

The strings feel fantastic. I find that the sound is good at some spots, mediocre at others. I play fingerstyle and I feel that the lower E string does not sound good when let ring. I will try a different string next time in hope of a sound I better like

Great feel; sound good not great

I don't swear by them, but I like them well enough. I've been sort of drifting away from roundwound strings over the last few months, so I'm not sure that I'll be picking any up again soon, but my P Bass with Slinkies sounds massive and I love it. For the record, I used D'Addario roundwound strings for a while until recently switching to Ernie Ball. I don't really notice a huge difference between the two, to be completely honest

They have top notch marketing and packaging imo, probably what got me when I was younger, but is it just me when I notice quality is really lacking on their bass string selection?

I had this talk with a fellow bassist and he said Ernie ball strings are kind of a phase musicians work through until they find a better brand, and I can’t help but agree based on my own experience.</p>

Try the ernie cobalt, they sound so much better than regulars. Otherwise  i'm looking forward to try the elexir cobalt I ordered, been hearing some great stuff about them.

I'm probably going to get the regular slinkys from ernie ball. I was wondering if anyone has experience with these and what they think about it? Are they nice to slide, i like sliding and maybe wanna get a bit more into tapping

one broken string

So I have been rather unhappy with the past couple packs of Ernie Ball Regular Slinky strings I’ve gotten. I play with a pick (I play rather lightly), and these strings died within two playing sessions. I prefer that bright stringy clanky tone. I get it from the Cobalt Ernie Balls, which last way longer, but they’re also almost twice the price

 These strings are smooth, however, now I have new issues that I didn't expect. Instead of the sandpaper feel of normal strings, these smooth strings burn my fingers (like a carpet burn) when sliding. This is probably due to the increased surface area touching your fingers using a flat string. I also noticed that my right hand is getting very tired plucking, I never had that issue with normal strings

 The strings sound great through my amp, the issues I am having are particular to my noob situation, and playing Rocksmith. I am still pretty new to playing bass, and to anyone else out there playing rocksmith I recommend sticking with normal strings.
