Hello everyone, my name is Jay Murrow, primarily a self-taught bassist and I just wanted to do a quick review, long overdue review because I've had the strings on my bass for a while, DR Fat Beams and before I buy any product I always do Google reviews, Amazon reviews, YouTube reviews, whatever that I can see that whatever give me the best information. So I had them for nearly six months now, close to six months, if this thing would turn on. Give me one second

 My opinion is when it comes to DR strings, I think each bass, I think each strings go with each bass and I've had other strings on this bass, I've got like the DR coated strings like the rainbow ones I've had and those are pretty good. You know as you heard I like to do a lot of chords and melodic stuff so the rainbows definitely did help, Fat Beams definitely did give me that bright sound and definitely made my chords a lot fatter with those and then you know a little bit of, you know, a little slap sound to it. It also has a good slap sound to it so definitely like Fat Beams, I'd rather do it post a video now because I mean I've had them on this bass for a while so I mean they've definitely held its own DR Fat Beams so anybody that's looking for any new strings I recommend DR Fat Beams. I've used other ones on my, I have a 5 string Squier bass and I put DR Lowriders and I've had those on there for, I put those on I think January or February of 2020, that was a long time ago and then also I had a 4 string Squier that I sold, I remember I put D, I had that one drop tuned, drop D, I had them drop the whole step and that one was, I had the Heavy Gauge, DR Pure Blues and then before then I had GS strings that were drop tuned and to me the GS strings was better than the Pure Blues, it definitely gave me a little bit more bottom end but also it had, it also had like some brightness though too and they were a little bit more easier to put on and the only problems that I've had with DRs is that when you put them on you know there's a lot of buzzing and have to you know play with this bridge a little bit to get it to set up to where you you know need it and then and then also I'm gonna do a review on the DR Red Devils, I got, I ordered those, those are coming in this week, I wanted to do a review on those because I tried doing, I tried to look for reviews on those, couldn't really find any you know I saw you know a couple of reviews but they were of the Red Devils but they were on guitar so I you know saw a lot of good reviews, saw some bad reviews but you know I want to you know you never know how something works or how something gonna be unless you try it yourself so so yeah but yeah so you know if you're looking for a nice slap tone if you you know play you know chords a lot or if you know you're a six string player you know I recommend DR Fat Beams definitely definitely you know and even like they have like a lot more brighter and they're more melodic than the DR low riders but yeah that's what I would recommend so yeah y'all be blessed now

DR Fat Beams .030-.125 (Review)

Try DR Fat Beams or DR Pure Blues. Both have a really balanced sound and I can usually get several months out of them before they go dead. I never liked coated strings but that’s just me.

I don't have loads of money, but I still want to try to sound as good as possible when gigging. Back when I used to only play 1 gig every 6 months or so, I would just stick a new set on a week or two before each gig (to avoid fresh string sound), but now I'm in a few bands and gigging more often, that's getting too expensive. I currently use Ernie ball's (only thing my local shop stocks for bass), and they only last a few weeks to a month before sounding dead, and boiling them only extends it for a week or two. I'm happy to pay more for strings which last longer. I want them to sound bright but not fresh out of packet bright.

Currently I am really happy with Dunlop DBN nickel wound on my fretless and can recommend. Previously I used some DR Fat Beams, but I prefer them more on my fretted J. I also tried Rotosound nickels and they were ok, but Dunlops are better.

I'm not particularly happy with the feel or tone of my flatwound strings, so, I'm going to switch to rounds. I'm not particularly interested in the whole fingerboard damage argument. I just want to know what rounds do you fretless guys use to make it sing

New Strings for Fretless

I have used a variety of bass strings, including different DR, and these are among the best I have put on. Nice low tones without sacrificing high note crispness. The strings feel good on the fingers and sound good at any tone setting.

Best roundwound steel bass strings for slap?

Finally, I have found strings that I can't nit pick apart. Great bright tone. Harmonically consistent from open E to high G (24 fret Spector). Smooth and consistent best words to describe these strings

Great bright tone

Check out DR Fat Beams- they’re slightly less bright than Hi-Beams but still have plenty of long-life and piano-like sustain. You may also check out Rotosound 66’s.

My Musicman stingray special has stainless steel frets and I just find them a little too bright sounding and a tiny bit prone to feet buzz in places. 

I started off with stainless steel DR strings as that is what I have on my other stingray but they were definitely too bright, then I switched to nickel wound ernie balls, but they are still too bright, where should I go from here?
