Civivi Pintail

Civivi Pintail. Almost as good as the WE Knife Rectifier, certainly better than the Elementum.

My Pintail sounded like it was crunching sand out of the box, but after cleaning is wildly smooth. Finally, I didn't like how smooth and plastic feeling the micarta was on my Pintail so while I had it apart to clean, I also roughed up the scales juuuuust a little with some 80 grit sand paper and then a light pass with some 150 to smooth it back down just a little. Now it feels more like linen, is far softer, absorbs liquid at the top layer (gets darker when wet), and all around feels a LOT better to me. Granted, I *do* like an age patina so your tastes may vary, but while I didn't like Civivi's micarta out of the box, it's awesome after a very light mod.

For the money, Civivi makes the best budget folder out there. They come super sharp out of the box and the action on them is second to none. I currently have 2 Civivi's in my collection. The elementum (gray micarta, d2 tool steel around $55) and the Civivi Pintail ( brown Micarta handle CPM s35vn blade around $90).

Very nice knife. super sharp and smooth operations. Found it a little to small for me had to move knife outward in my hands to open and close. Blade had some side to side play on blade when open drove me nuts and returned.

When I was doing forestry field work I needed a narrow tip for pinning things to the side of trees all the time so either a tanto or a spear point worked best. While warncliffs have grown on me I still am a fan of the narrow tip because of my years in the field and that's what I'm most comfortable and experienced with. I now EDC a Civivi Pintail and have for about nine months now if that indicates anything about my preference at this time.

Civivi. A lot of people will say the Elementum, but I’d recommend the Pintail. It’s a great size, lightweight yet solid build, S35VN steel, nice action, excellent ergos, and has both a flipper tab and thumb studs… so, you can get a feel for each and which you’d prefer.

It’s my mistake for not checking the Material first. It’s a good knife- I was just hoping it would be grippy. It’s slick and the material feels similar to paper. I’m not saying it’s weak or cheap- it’s just what it feels like. Everything else about it is good
