It's not going to be a game changer, but they have certainly put out something really quite close to perfection with this update.

The 5D mark III is still an amazing camera with a really nice sensor even if it’s now 9 years old. Definitely a solid base for a beginner to start on!

I have a 5D Mark III, I primarily use it for photography but sometimes I shoot a few videos. I've heard of Magic Lanter and would love to try it out, but as far as I've seen I have to downgrade the software on the camera to use it. Is it worth it and can any problems occur?

First and foremost would be the mirrorless shooting experience and the wider / faster AF system. I went from a 80D to a 5D Mark III to an M50 and the M50 has a higher keeper rate than either for what I do (mostly street / landscape). The AF system covers more area and "feels" faster than the 80D.

I have both an 80D and a 5D Mark III and the only times the 5D clearly outperforms the 80D is when I'm using it in lower light or looking for extremely shallow dof. The main thing to consider when you're just starting out is how to get the most out of your budget. If you stick with an APS-C body, you can keeping using EF-S lenses which are great value especially on the second hand market.

used nikon d750 or a canon 5d mark iii. both can be found well under $1000 dollars and offer a tried and true full frame sensor and compatibility with a host of affordable glass backed by a strong used market!
