By making use of certain operating mechanisms, some handguns are seemingly able to reduce reciprocating mass and are also able to have a fixed red dot position. The Desert Eagle does this by having the "rear of the slide" reciprocate and having a fixed, railed barrel. I've also seen some media about a non-NFA version of the Maxim 9 doing this using roller-delayed blowback. Are there reasons besides cost making these operating mechanisms so uncommon in handguns?
