 Still has its external extractor on it. A very pretty gun, but it was known for a rather heavy trigger pull. And of course you still don't have a positive detent on the safety lever. NEW FN High-Power - How does it stack up to the original?

 So today we want to talk about a classic military handgun, the Browning Hi-Power, the gun that's

 been cloned or copied or made under license by multiple countries over the years.

 But FN, a couple of years ago, canceled the production of the very popular handgun, causing

 the gun community to kind of go into a tizzy, like you can't take that away, and then they

 started clamoring for Turkish clones and things like that.

 But FN had a plan, FN apparently was working on a refresh, a redesign of the classic Browning

 Hi-Power, something the gun really hadn't seen throughout its entire production run.

 Sure they made various changes to the guns over the years in terms of production differences,

 but the basic operation of the gun really didn't change much over all those decades.

 And so FN reintroduced it and we're going to talk about it today.

 In my hands I have a Canadian made gun for the Chinese market, and this is a World War

 It has a classic wooden stock, has the tangent rear sights, and the stock clips onto the

 gun like that, and the wooden stock now becomes a functional stock.

 The classic Hi-Power is a single action only handgun that has a manual safety on the left

 Later they would put ambi safety on some of the models that were offered, but this is

 I can understand why it's such a classic.

 Ergonomic, held 13 rounds of 9mm in the original design, it was quite forward thinking for

 Again, throughout my entire life, gunsmiths have always been able to earn a really good

 living, assuming they have a really strong work ethic.

 So by the time the Browning Hi-Power went out of production, they had reached the Mark

 And this is an example of the final production run of guns.

 You'll notice it has an ambi safety on it.

 And that's where the Israeli style of carry for the Browning Hi-Power evolved from, was

 from these guns that really lacked a safe way to carry them loaded.

 Putting the hammer down on a loaded round in the chamber for some of the earlier guns

 would definitely be a no-go because you could drop the gun and it would fire.

 So this is the last model that FN would make.

 And that's what set everybody into a tizzy trying to get a Hi-Power and people were going

 out and looking for them trying to get them because they wanted to buy them before the

 prices skyrocketed even though they've been in production for almost 90 years.

 But that left a hole in the market and the Turks are great at cloning things.

 When I went to Turkey six or seven years ago, I visited Gerson and Tsos and I was able to

 look at an example of their Hi-Power clones and I was really blown away.

 We were both there together and we took a look at the pistols and we told the Turks,

 you know, you need to import these because they're a nicely made product.

 It went away just before the next gun I'm going to show you showed up on the market.

 Now I know this is a Tsos and a Gerson just reintroduced a Browning Hi-Power clone, another

 Turkish company, and I've seen those for sale and they're very modestly priced.

 So Springfield, when Browning pulled out of the market, I'm assuming Springfield saw an

 opportunity there and they introduced their version of the Browning Hi-Power.

 We'll talk a little bit about that later in the video.

 But some changes were made to it, but overall this is pretty much a straight up clone of

 the original design that Springfield brought to market for right around $700.

 Now Springfield does say that this gun is 100% USA made.

 There's some that have speculated that Tsos is supplying the forgings that are being finally

 Springfield says it's 100% US made and it does say US made on the markings of the gun.
