Altra, Asics, Brooks do work for my wideish feet. I love the Ghost but the Cascadia or Caldera from Brooks is more suited for trailrunning, so you might wanna have a look inot those two.

Hello, I am going hiking in the PNW next week and I bought both the Brooks Caldera 5 and Brooks Cascadia 16. The Brooks Caldera is the more comfortable shoe for me and would be great for long-distance.

Hoka Challenger and Brooks Caldera are good options. They're not going to be great in the mud or really technical stuff but they're a good mix.

I recommend the Brooks caldera 5! Really tall stack height (great for trails and for roads), and doesn’t have as aggressive as a tread as other trail shoes but it’s still responsive and grippy. I used mine on the road for a couple months and on some occasional trail runs, they held up and are still holding up.

The sole doesn't have a very deep profile and it is quite cushy, so it does well on pavement, but I also have enough grip on trails. They are not perfect for very slippery deep mud, but if they had been they wouldn't have felt good on pavement. I have the first model Brooks Caldera, they now make their fifth model already, but it doesn't look like they have changed them too much.

If you're already road running and like your shoes for that, start with the same brand for trail models e.g. if you like Brooks shoes, check out the Cascadia 16 or Caldera 5. Like others recommended, visit a running store if you are able to and comfortable doing so. In the meantime, look for running stores in your area, call them, and tell them what you're up to.
