 So without further ado, here's the review. Starting at the top we've got a beautiful cork handle. This cork is so comfortable over long periods of time, if you think about it this is going to be in your hand for potentially 6-10 hours a day, so cork wicks away sweat, or the mic probably absorbs it, but it is far more comfortable than hanging onto foam all day. As we move down the pole, the cork gives way to a foam non-slip handle, so that's great when you need to quickly change from an angle where it's a slight incline to a really steep incline, and then rather than changing the pole flick lock, you just grab at the lower handle, so that's super super handy, and I'd be looking for that in any trekking pole that I've bought also

 What's really important is when you're using trekking poles is to remove that plastic cap unless you're going to somewhere like the Inca Trail where they actually require that you use that plastic cap so it doesn't damage the rock. In summary, these are a great all-season multi-purpose pole that you can use summer, winter, they've got to be one of the best poles on the market and I highly recommend that if you are going to do some trekking, especially in the Himalayas, that you watch my other video on how to use trekking poles, there is many benefits of using them from staying injury-free through to exerting yourself less. To wrap up, I'm going to give the Black Diamond Trail Ergo Cork five mountains out of five, I don't think they could have done better making this trekking pole. Not the lightest, but my Black Diamond Trail Ergo Cork trekking poles (aluminum) have been unmatched for me. Had them for years and they’ve saved my ass on so many occasions (especially up in NH). Never bent or broken, even when I’ve stumbled and put more weight on them than I should. I use a trekking pole tent too, so I need my poles to be reliable

 Hi there, Wayne Jennings here. Today we're going to be looking at hiking poles. These cork-handled poles are made by Black Diamond. They're really, really nice

 On a recent three-day backpacking trip, I used these trekking poles extensively and found them to be comfortable, durable, and reliable while traversing a variety of steep and rugged terrain. And I can't wait to get out and use them again.

 I think one of the nicest features on these poles are the cork handles. They're soft, easy to grip, comfortable to hold, and, unlike a plastic handle, they help keep your hands cool and dry by wicking away excess moisture. And they're cantered slightly, leaning forward at an angle of 15 degrees to help give you an optimal, ergonomic grip position. You'll also find padded, soft-touch webbing straps that are fully adjustable to fit over any size wrist or bulky outerwear

Hi everyone,

I am slightly confused about trekking poles and the difference between cheap and expensive ones.

I've heard many recommendations for the black diamond trekking poles, which are fairly expensive (100$+).   
On the other hand, I've read about many people using the trekking poles from Decathlon for years without them breaking - they are significantly cheaper, and they don't weight any more than the expensive black diamond ones.

Not sure what would be the advantage of the expensive option (eg black diamond) compared to the cheap one (eg decathlon).

Any opinions?

BD Trail Ergo Cork all the way. Super sturdy, super comfortable grips and the Ergo handles are a game changer. They're 18oz but for me they're definitely worth the extra couple of ounces.

I've previously owned a set of CMT poles that have gotten the job done for the last 4 years. The adhesive on the cork grips has finally given out, allowing the grips to slide up and down the pole when any sort of weight is put upon them, so looking to replace and/or upgrade at the moment. 

Requirements:
- Telescope adjustable (from at minimum 105-115cm)
- Under 16oz/pair
- Reliable durability (used with my Tarptent Notch so a break would be disruptive to any trip)
- Replaceable tips for long term wear 

Things I'd like, but not necessary:
- Under 12oz/pair
- Cork grips
- Removable baskets and straps
- Under $150
- Able to get by 7/21 in Denver area
- Comes with baskets

I've looked at the BD Alpine Carbon Cork, but they really don't seem to offer much more for significantly higher price than the CMTs. I do like the sturdier lock system and an ability to attach whippets (WR model), but I think I'd rather find something with a lower carry weight than prioritize those features.

GG LT5 (10oz/pair) look promising but expensive (nearly $200) and based on some reviews I'm unsure how they'd fare durability wise in the rough alpine terrain of the CO Rockies.

Fizian Compact 3 (11oz/pair) - no cork grip but cheap ($70) and light. Curious if anyone with experience with these could comment, I suspect these are in the same class as CMTs but again concerned with durability.

Do durable, UL and adjustable hiking poles exist?

 I contacted customer support and they were gracious enough to mail me replacements for free! I've also replaced the tips twice now. Unfortunately the plastic part just above the tips are starting to bend at an angle now, but they seem to be holding up. Very thankful for the countless times these poles have saved me (before falling down, I have seen the pole briefly bend at around a 90 degree angle!). I really believe they would be snapped by now if they were instead carbon fiber! These are keepers, and they're still going!

These are great, good to exercise something other than just my ...

 One of the stand out features on the poles and really what grants them their name are these natural cork grips, just a really nice feel in your hand, very tactile, nice texturing on there. So on the go it just feels great in your hand, frankly. And if you are sweating, if you are kind of building up heat, these still grip very confidently. Sometimes with rubber grips and things you can start to slip a little bit and that doesn't seem to happen with that natural cork

 This is EVA foam. Extends further down that top shaft section than just the standard handle would. If you are using this with gloved hands, this is a really nice grab point for making adjustments. If you are going up and down varying grades, so you are back and forth on switch backs and one moment your pole is on the outside hand, then it is on the inside hand, you could find yourself wanting to make all kinds of micro adjustments to the length of the poles or because of this extended section of grip you can really set the poles at a spot where you can grab them here and then grab them here as that grade, as that elevation changes and just a really nice smart feature there in addition to the standard grip

 But a nice moisture wicking material on the inside of those straps and wrist straps really do help to take the strain off your wrists and other joints over the course of the day. There is an extended portion to this grip. This is EVA foam. Extends further down that top shaft section than just the standard handle would

 There are markings on the shaft sections of the poles which makes it really easy to designate exactly what length you would like them set and the external locking mechanisms on the poles make it easy to open them up, easy to lock them down and there is a nice confident bite there. So once you have got them at the length you want them to, simply close that flick lock and off you go.
