I hear people go on and on about this knife, but never owned a Benchmade, only handled one once or twice. Finally caved and bought a blue 535 Bugout and an orange mini Bugout, to try them out. Posted over at rKnives but figured you guys might like this too. Custom Japanese style modded Bugout 535. I reground the blade into a tanto point, installed gold hardware, gave it an acid then brass wash, and installed Flytanium micarta scales.

Meh, it's okay. Nice utility blade shape, okay to good steel, sharp, centered well, but it's sorta small for rough use, the handle is too flimsy and doesn't inspire confidence, and compared to my other (higher priced) benchmades, the axis lock is terrible. This is a criminally underrated knife. Frankly, the Bugout is more popular than the Deka based on nothing but mob hype. The Deka is head and shoulders above the Bugout in nearly every way.

It is very light and the locking mechanism is good. If you need a sharp edc for light duty tasks, this will do. For medium to heavy duty, look elsewhere. I have the Benchmade Bugout, regularly carry in gym shorts and never notice it is there. Slim profile, 3 inch blade. Only weighs 1.85 oz! Handle/scales flex a tiny bit but hardly noticeable. Favorite edc yet.
