Audio-Technica AT91

It’s a *very* low end turntable, which lacks basic adjustability. The anti-skate force can’t be adjusted, and the counterweight is not threaded, meaning you can’t adjust your tracking force without buying a separate scale. And it also comes with the “Rega Carbon” cartridge, which is a rebadged Audio-Technica AT91. The closest competitor there is to the Planar 1 in the US market, in terms of quality, is probably the Fluance RT80 which costs $200 new and is another entry level belt drive model that ships with the AT91.

I think it would have been ok had the stylus itself not been damaged in transit. I have purchased loads from this seller and this is the first issue I have ever had. The sound quality for what I could tell was going to be ok but had to return as the cartridge body was dragging accross the record Sha...

The AT91 is a conical stylus. It's very forgiving about worn/dirty records, but you sacrifice detail and high frequency response. The reason being is that conical styli have the least amount of contact with the groove surface. Conicals will also usually exhibit more sibilance and inner-groove distortion because of their wide diameter and resulting difficulty tracking high-frequency vibrations well.

I recently bought a TT selected by BOSE from a bazaar. After a long research I found out that the specific TT was carrying the AT91. I bought a the new replacement and the results are very good for the value of the TT and the stylus. Recommended!

Looks like an Audio Technica at3600/at91.

You can use the atn91, atn91r and atn3600l, or any generic stylus designed for those cartridges

Just dug out the old turntable and since it's been about 25 years or so I figured I'd replace the stylus and cartridge. The new Audio Technica At91 Phonograph Cartridge sounds great. I'm very happy with the product.

Can't compare to the AT91, but I have a U Turn and I upgraded from the Ortofon Red to the Ortofon Blue and it made a very noticeable difference. I love my Ortofon Blue: tight bass, warmer sound, less sibilant. That's my 2 cents.

Yes it's entry level, but sounds really nice. I replaced a Groove Tool on an older ION turntable and the quality is great for the price. Good instructions, comes with two sizes of mounting screws.

The Rega comes with the “Rega Carbon” which is just a rebadged Audio-Technica AT91… a few steps lower down in A-T’s product line compared to the VM95E, with a cheapo conical stylus rather than an elliptical. That means it will have have more sibilance, less bass and treble extension, less detail, more inner groove distortion, and a shorter lifespan. And it will wear your records faster since it’s designed for roughly 50% higher tracking force. Rega makes some good turntables but their good stuff doesn’t start until the Planar 6 in my opinion.

Bought as a second option for supplied stylus. Originally was going to use this when playing older worn records & save my original for new records but this sounds better so switched.
