 My one concern is the tongue is really thin and lightweight which is a positive but sometimes when I wore some lower ankle socks, it could not cut into the ankle but I felt a little bit of irritation so going to a higher sock completely eliminated that and I would have no concerns in a race or a longer training session as long as I wore that higher sock with the upper and that tongue. So overall, the ASICS Magic Speed, I really enjoyed. The cushioning, it's not too firm, it's not too soft, it's kind of like the Goldilocks, it's just right underfoot. You also get a lot of blown rubber so I think these are going to be really durable, something I'd happily lace up in training, racing a half marathon, I'd even push these comfortably to a full marathon

 This shoe is coming in at $150, it's got the carbon fiber plate, a lot of value squeezed into a lot of performance, so a lot to talk about with this shoe. First let's dive on into the midsole, we've got full length flight foam blasts, we've seen flight foam blasts in a lot of A6 shoes, this is going to be the first one in a racing flat. It's soft, it's responsive, it's not maybe going to be quite as soft as the Metaspeed Sky but still a very unique underfoot experience. Now also when we're comparing it with the Metaspeed Sky it is going to be just a little bit lower, still a lot of protection underfoot but this shoe is going to be closer to that 35 millimeters so again I really think this is going to feel a little bit closer to the ground, even a little bit more nimble and again a great shoe on workout day

 Now the midsole is going to be probably one of the biggest selling points in this shoe but let's move on down to the outsole, a lot of rubber here, kind of reminds me a little bit of what we saw in the Hyperspeed, it runs through the forefoot into the heel, just a little bit of exposed material in the heel but again lots of rubber, plenty of traction, going to have pretty good durability, I think you're going to get better durability out of this shoe than maybe what you see in the Metaspeed Sky, it is going to come at the cost of a little extra weight but I think when you're pounding out workouts the outsole here in this shoe is going to be phenomenal. Finishing the shoe off we've got a simple and breathable mesh design, it's got a nice snug midfoot, it's got a fairly snug toe box, I'd say the Metaspeed Sky had a little bit more room but overall there was still a little bit room for your toes display but it's going to be a snug performance fit in the heel, we've got a little bit of a counter, it's a little stiff but the shoe has pretty minimal materials in the upper, it's built to be light, coming in at 7.9 ounces, again this is going to be a lightweight racing flat. So overall what am I going to use this shoe for, I think a few things, obviously it is a plated racer so it's going to be able to perform at a wide variety of distances, it's going to be fast enough to go 5k or 10k but it's also going to have the protection to go the full marathon distance but what I think I'm most excited for is to finally have a carbon plated racer at a reasonable price tag at $150 I'm going to have no issues pounding out the miles in the shoe, whether it be fart licks, track sessions, tempo runs, it really does have a high level of performance at a reasonable price tag

 The Magic Speed continues the ASICS Guide Soul technology and between the foam, the Guide Soul technology, rocker, underfoot and the carbon plate, I found it to be really responsive and poppy on toe-off. That toe-off sensation is really nice, I really like the Glide Ride and I think in the Magic Speed it just is exponentially better. The upper on the Magic Speed, it's really lightweight, really breathable. I tested these in some 30 degree Celsius days and they handled it really well

ASICS Magic Speed Review | The Best Carbon Plated Racing ...

I'm an avid Asics fan. I've stuck with the glide ride and the nova blast and after having a bad experience switching it up to Hoka I returned to Asics and these were a disappointment. They are beautiful shoes and I'm sure they'd be fine for walking but I run on average 25-30 miles a week and these caused immense pain in my knees after the first time wearing them. I think it's probably a support issue and I let my vanity get in the way because they are great to look at but I definitely won't be running in them

 So that's kind of like where I am with this shoe it just feels very similar to that and if you look at the stats same stack height same heel drop very similar look very similar materials it seems and this shoe comes in at $150 which compared to like other carbon plated options out there or even carbon plated trainers that are out there is a bit of a discount but I just feel like I'm not sure that it's worth the premium that you'd be paying over a non carbon plated shoe my opinion may change on that after a couple more runs maybe this is just one of those weird shoes that even though it's 2021 the shoe maybe needs some break-in and so I'm 15 miles into the shoe or just shy of 15 miles into the shoe now I'll put give it a couple more runs and I'll update you guys on that for sure hit the subscribe button so you can get the notification when that video comes out but right now I'm having a hard time kind of like figuring out where does this shoe fit it's a good shoe but I'm not that excited about it because for another 10 bucks you can pick up the endorphin speed or the endorphin speed too which I think is a fantastic shoe a near perfect shoe that can do easy runs that can do long runs and that can do fast runs the magic speed might do like 5k and faster better I'm pretty sure it does but for the all the other kind of running you might want to do I think that the endorphin speed is going to be the better choice I think that you can run the endorphin speed in a marathon I did a 30 mile FKT attempt in those and it was an absolutely great shoe I don't think that I'd want to run like more than 20 miles at a time in the magic speed just because that midsole is just very firm the other thing is at that $150 price point you also have shoes like the Hyperion Tempo with its DNA flash midsole no carbon fiber plate in there and it's a little bit firm of a midsole material as well but I also feel like at marathon pace half marathon pace up to threshold pace where I think the magic speed a lot of people that are buying the magic speed are going to be using it for those levels of effort I think the Hyperion Tempo does a better job and then even if you compare against other ASICs like I was saying is it worth the premium over a non-plated shoe the Nova Blast 2 is on sale for $130 a Nova Blast 1 you could probably get for an even cheaper price than that I think that unless you're using it for I want to do 5k training and 5k racing in it in that situation maybe for some of you that are in the offseason for high school cross-country like those kinds of runners I think maybe the magic speed might be a better option but for most people like I'd rather people buy the Nova Blast 1 or the Nova Blast 2 than the magic speed so unless something drastically changes in my next couple of runs and again I'll let you know if it does unless something drastically changes I'm just not sure that this is a shoe that really has a place either at the price point or with the level of performance that we're getting from it right now so that there's just something's not quite right about it it's not delivering on the promise and the excitement of an FF Blast midsole with a carbon fiber plate that I think a lot of us were hoping for I'm really sorry to say that to you guys because I was so looking forward to this shoe but unfortunately so far just not in love with the magic speed so those are my thoughts on this shoe after just the first run let me know in the comments if you have any questions or better yet feel free to stop by the live stream that I do just about every day right here on YouTube I'd love to talk to you there that's all I for today everybody thanks so much for making it all the way to the end of the video hopefully you guys are staying safe out there on your runs and I'll see you in the next one.

 Now another part of this shoe is that it has A6 guide sole technology which is what it's calling basically like it's rocker so there's a very aggressive rocker in fact even if I just put this shoe on the table it'll kind of rock back and forth because it doesn't really sit it's designed to be very curved so that way you're getting through the gait cycle very smoothly. Now I felt like as far as like hitting back here it is really soft back here is like the only place of the shoe that's very soft in this heel strike so if you are using like the entire shoe you're getting a nice smooth motion but I don't feel like this is the fastest way to run in this shoe or the most comfortable necessarily I felt really awkward when I tried to do that but instead what I felt like with this rocker technology I did like it but it also reminded me a lot of the EvoRide which has the same guide sole technology in it and for the entire run that I was running today I just couldn't help but thinking this shoe doesn't feel like a magic speed it doesn't feel like a carbon plated Nova Blast to me if you had told me that this was the EvoRide 2 which is a shoe that I love version 1 I haven't tried version 2 yet this year but if you told me this was the EvoRide 2 I'd say yeah that makes sense it seems a little bit firmer this year than it was last year maybe a little bit taller than it was last year maybe I'm just remembering it different but yeah this is a good EvoRide 2 this is a good update. Defects in FFBlast and upper adherence

 In terms of the heel collar there's not a lot of material going around here which might worry some people and something I was concerned about. But if you look inside, ASICS has put this cushioning inside or padding really that gives you a little bit more stability and a little bit more protection in the back. I never really had any kind of rubbing or horrible friction against the back of my ankle. So overall the fit has been really good for me but I will say it's a narrow fitting shoe so that is something to keep in mind

 I think you're going to get a secure fit. This tongue is nice and thin and that will sit quite nicely on top of your foot.  They use EVA-based flight foam blast cushioning in the midsole and features a half-length carbon plate that, combined with the curved sole design, is designed to deliver that forward propulsion feeling. On the outsole, ASICS uses two types of rubber to deliver strong abrasion resistance and offers strong traction for both wet and dry roads. ASICS says this is a shoe that's made for racing and lacing up for those training runs. So fit for me actually was pretty good

 I was worried about the kind of protection at the back of this shoe but ultimately that little bit of padding that you get strategically placed at the back does kind of do its job when you are running quicker in this shoe. In terms of the grip I mean I liked it on the Meta Racer. I liked it on the Metaspeed Sky and it's a similar story on the Magic Speed as well. I am getting as you can probably notice getting a little bit of kind of caught into it but ultimately the grip has been great on kind of dry and wet surfaces

If the Metaspeed Sky is Asics' Nike Alphafly and Vaporfly rival, the Magic Speed (£145/$150) is its more affordable daily trainer option that takes design elements from the Metaspeed to still give you that speedy feeling.

It packs FF Blast midsole foam, a half length carbon fibre plate and features a curved sole design to provide that snappy and responsive feel.

After his 10k race test, Tester Mike has now put in enough running to give his verdict on the Magic Speed and tell you whether this is a shoe worth picking up.

Asics Magic Speed Review: Daily trainer and race ... - YouTube

Ordered my usual 1/2 size up for running, and could barely fit my foot in the shoe… I normally wear Nimbus so I expected these to fit the same. Definitely returning the shoes, may order another pair (in case these were stamped incorrectly) and a size up. A bit inconvenient and wasteful - so many customers who think they know their shoe size will be ordering and returning!

 They also have a great look too which I find hard to find sometimes with quality running shoes

This shoes are super slippery on wet pavement. not good for races with water stops or rainy days. Super super slippery!
