 You want to be safe with power, right? You bet. I asked about the firmware and Tracy over at Artillery thankfully was able to send it to me in a zip file in email. She also mentioned they were gonna have it posted on their website, but as of filming this video right here, it gave me a 404.

 Don't don't do that. Don't marry those together because each of those are a separate system that need to be troubleshooted separately. and if you combine them, your car won't start, have the Bowden tube separate and just have some cool 3d printed clips that clip it to this cable that will now just hold the electronics and then you still have a clean machine. You have some added features

This thread is meant to conglomerate purchase advice for both newcomers and people looking for additional machines. Keeping this discussion to one thread means less searching should anyone have questions that may already have been answered here, as well as more visibility to inquiries in general, as comments made here will be visible for the entire month stuck to the top of the sub, and then linked to in the next month's thread.

If you are new to 3D printing, and are unsure of what to ask, try to include the following in your posts as a minimum:

* Your budget, set at a numeric amount. Saying "cheap," or "money is not a problem" is not an answer people can do much with. 3D printers can cost $100, they can cost $10,000,000, and anywhere in between. A rough idea of what you're looking for is essential to figuring out anything else.
* Your country of residence.
* If you are willing to build the printer from a kit, and what your level of experience is with electronic maintenance and construction if so.
* What you wish to do with the printer.
* Any extenuating circumstances that would restrict you from using machines that would otherwise fit your needs (limited space for the printer, enclosure requirement, must be purchased through educational intermediary, etc).

While this is by no means an exhaustive list of what can be included in your posts, these questions should help paint enough of a picture to get started. Don't be afraid to ask more questions, and never worry about asking too many. The people posting in this thread are here because they want to give advice, and any questions you have answered may be useful to others later on, when they read through this thread looking for answers of their own. Everyone here was new once, so chances are whoever is replying to you has a good idea of how you feel currently.

Additionally, a quick word on print quality: Most FDM/FFF (that is, filament based) printers are capable of approximately the same tolerances and print appearance, as the biggest limiting factor is in the nature of extruded plastic. **Asking if a machine has "good prints," or saying "I don't expect the best quality for $xxx" isn't actually relevant for the most part** with regards to these machines. Should you need additional detail and higher tolerances, you may want to explore SLA, DLP, and other photoresin options, as those *do* offer an increase in overall quality. If you are interested in resin machines, make sure you are aware of [how to use them safely](https://www.reddit.com/r/3DPrinting/wiki/resinprinting#wiki_safety). For these safety reasons we don't usually recommend a resin printer as someone's first printer.

hey everyone and welcome back to hoffman 
engineering today we are taking a look at  

the artillery hornet 3d printer this entry level 
printer has an attractive appearance but for less  

than 200 us dollars can it also deliver attractive 
prints let's find out before we begin this 3d  

printer was provided for review by geekbuying.com 
if you are interested in the artillery hornets  

or any other 3d printer they offer use my 
affiliate link below to help support the channel  

but as always with any of my reviews i do my 
best to provide as honest of a review as possible  

geekbuying.com offers a variety of 3d printers so 
check out their selection if the artillery hornet  

doesn't match what you are looking for let's 
jump into the details the artillery hornet is  

a filament based 3d printer with a total build 
volume of 220 millimeters by 220 millimeters by  

250 millimeters the hot end is ptfe lined with a 
standard 0.4 millimeter copper nozzle capable of  

250 degrees celsius perfect for materials 
like pla petg and abs attached to the hot  

end are dual cooling fans cooling the print down 
from both sides the hornet uses 1.75 millimeter  

diameter filament which is fed by a titan 
extruder through a patent-pending integrated  

cable which connects the extruder to the hot end 
that single cable contains the ptfe bowden tube  

as well as all of the electronic wires needed 
for the hotend this gives a very clean appearance  

as there is only one cable going to the hotend the 
x-axis and extruder are connected to the z-axis  

which uses a single lead screw with a motor 
mounted at the top of the machine all axes use  

aluminum extrusions with v-slot wheels for motion 
the x and z-axis are connected to the base of  

the printer with four bolts the base consists of 
the heated bed which moves front to back for the  

y-axis the bed is a textured coated tempered glass 
surface heated by the attached aluminum dc heater  

the heated bed takes about 3 minutes to get up to 
70 degrees celsius and 7 minutes for 100 degrees  

celsius the textured surface is perfect for pla 
the material sticks perfectly to the surface with  

no need for adhesives but i had to use hairspray 
to get abs to print reliably on the glass surface  

the bed is attached to the y-axis with four 
spring-loaded screws the screws have large nuts  

on them which makes them easy to turn to level the 
bed the base also houses the 350 watt power supply  

and the 32-bit main board which uses marlin 
version 2 as the firmware the included motor  

drivers are amazing when running this printer 
is near silent it is the quietest printer i  

have personally used and that was mrs hoffman 
engineering's first comments when she saw the  

hornet printing the fronts of the printer holds 
a high contrast full graphic lcd screen with a  

single push knob to navigate the menus next 
to the screen is the full sized sd card slot  

and to the left of the machine is the usb input if 
you want to connect to a computer or raspberry pi  

included with the printers are accessories and 
its own artillery branded zip up carrying case  

that includes all of the tools necessary for 
assembly a usb cable a four gigabyte micro sd card  

a micro sd to full size sd adapter an sd card to 
usb adapter spare v-slot wheels a spare nozzle  

and even a spare enzop for the x y or z-axis 
the printer arrived mostly assembled and only  

required four bolts to attach the x in the z-axis 
to the base of the printer slide in the removable  

filament holder on the right side screw in the 
integrated cable to the extruder and hot end and  

you are ready to level the bed bed leveling was 
extremely easy the printed manual and menu options  

walk you through the steps after 30 or so minutes 
i was already printing the included testcube  

g-code from the sd card a printer can be stylish 
and quiet but it's no good if it can't print well  

so let's look at what i've printed over the last 
couple of weeks unless otherwise noted all prints  

will be using pla and you can see what settings 
and filament i used by checking my 3dprintlog.com  

page linked in the description first up are the 
customary 3d benchies on the left is the benchy  

with the supplied cura profile and on the right 
is after tweaking their settings a little bit the  

original profile had six millimeters of retraction 
which was way more than needed i was able to cut  

that back to 2.5 millimeters and still keep 
stringing to a minimum that larger traction was  

causing some under extrusion and gaps in the print 
particularly noticeable in the back box of the 3d  

benchy after lowering the retraction distance 
those gaps are gone i figured this out pretty  

late in my testing so unfortunately this issue 
reappears and some other prints i'm about to show  

just for good measure i tested out abs as well 
davinci initially failed by pulling the prints off  

the bed the abs just does not stick well to bare 
glass surface but with a little hairspray the abs  

benchy stuck to the surface and printed just fine
