Here I am sitting eating popcorn with my iPad 8 which I got last year upgrading my iPad 6 to get the keyboard folio. I looked at the iPad Pro and Air and thought to myself the OS is too limiting to take advantage of the extra hardware. Here we are 6~ months later and a new model of iPad Pro and nothing has changed. Yes the iPad Pro is more powerful on paper.

battery is dying 100 days in

100 days into ownership and the battery simply will not charge above 80% and it drains too fast.... i can get three hours use out of it. pretty pointless at this stage. thought i was helping the environment by buying refurbished... but alas now I am going to toss this into a landfill.

Need some help finding a laptop for college, preferably under $500.

If you don't need specific windows-only software, you might consider getting an iPad 8. You can get a 128GB iPad + something like Logitech slim folio for 500 USD. Or you could use a cheap bluetooth keyboard and mouse and get a pen instead, which is great for college use. \+ Battery life is excellent, probably better than any laptop in this price range.

Excellent condition

Great condition but was not sent with apple charger or block. Charging cable was cheap looking and block was too. Also they were loose in the box so a lot of rattling. I already had apple cables and block but I only mention because some non apple products can damage phones and tablets. Just an FYI.

RAM could do the job, but it feels that the processor is slightly outdated. Last year got some work improvement I got this ipad 8 (2020) with apple pen and keyboard (also from aliexpress), that is good, but, yet nothing that I could enjoy typing.

The iPad is great. The third party charging cord .. not so much.

The iPad is great. The cord they dedided to package with this is a cheap piece of garbage... lasted about two weeks before it stopped working. Bought a $20 first party cord, which should have been included in the first place.

Should I wait for for the iPad 9 or go for the 8 now?

The iPad 8 is the good enough ipad. I haven't read any rumors about when the iPad 9 might be released and what it's specs might be. I'd say hey the iPad 8 now because it's good enough.
